A family who discovered his 15-year-old daughter was being wooed on Facebook by a man twice her age took matters into his own hands.
The mom and dad hatched a Facebook ruse that drew the 30-year-old Federal Way man to Spokane earlier this month.
The relationship began in April through a Facebook dating application called Are You Interested and was discovered earlier this month by the parents, court records show.
Richards and the girl exchanged hundreds of Facebook messages, communicated via YouTube, met face-to-face in May and then made plans to elope, court records show.
When the girl's parents discovered the relationship on June 7, they took their daughter's computer and locked her out of her Facebook account.
The mother then continued to message the man, posing as her daughter, and persuaded him to go through with the runaway plan. When he arrived at the family's Spokane home in the early hours of June 8, the girl's father and two of his friends were waiting for him in an alley behind the house. They held him until police arrived.
Then the father and a couple of his buddies staked out the arranged meeting spot and blocked the man's escape until police arrived.
The Spokesman-Review (http://bit.ly/190xaXm) reports that the suspect, identified in court documents as Jason D. Richards, faces charges of child rape and attempted kidnapping in Spokane County Superior Court. He is jailed on a $100,000 bond.
The newspaper did not publish the name of the girl or her family.
I am afraid they may end up getting charged with kidnapping themselves. And, I bet his defense attorney already is saying he was not meeting a 15 year old; it was the parent. I just feel this pedo will likely get away with it. I won’t say what might have/should have happened.
The perp is lucky that the father displayed restraint. He could have "accidentally" run into a baseball bat before the ops arrived.
I applaud the parents idea here.
But I’m afraid a good defense lawyer will get this case tossed with all charges dropped.
$100,000.. whoa, wait.. Thats only $10,000 to get out, and run... The authorities would need sponges to retrieve this monster if it was my daughter.. jus sayin..
Yep. If I was gonna premeditate it I can bet you they never would have found the body, and my family would have air tight alibis.
Correct. More honorable than what's going on here. We have middle-aged male sheriff's deputies trolling the internet pretending to be 12 year-old girls luring people from thousands of miles away to be busted on federal charges that the locals don't have to jail, indict, prosecute or incarcerate.
If there is no underage girl, there was no sex and the whole thing was based on a fabrication, where is the victim and who is the criminal?
that would have been a fitting end. Of course, we wouldn’t be reading about it now.
They held beat him until police arrived.
I think they should have turned this over to the police if they have a good cybercrimes department there. But if that doesn’t exist there, it sounds like the parents did what they could. The police would have done the same, that is, pretended to be the teenager and set up a meeting.
I don’t think he’ll get away with it, even in that liberal part of the universe.
I wish more of these stories would end with, “We have no idea who this guy was, officer, but he is hanging from that tree over there. Must have committed suicide.”
Am I missing something here? They gave him their home address, held him there, then went to the meeting spot? Why go to the meeting spot if the guy was being held at their home?
Yeah, I saw that too, but I just put it down to the declining quality of writing in journalism today. It seems that too many scribes want to do their jobs from their IPhones.
“two of his friends were waiting for him in an alley behind the house” ... The meeting spot
Should have invited him to a camping trip...somewhere secluded and rarely visited.
Did the girl and the guy actually meet before the parents got involved? If not, I wonder why he was charged with rape?
“It’s amazing how much damage you can suffer from self-inflicted baseball bat wounds.”
Rape???? What is this, the "Minority Report"? It may have been what he had in mind but it seems it never got that far (Thank God). Lock him up? Sure, but keep the charges within the bounds of reality.

GtG
How about that teen girl? Did she learn anything from this?
