Carjacking ought to be treated like kidnapping and both ought to be punishable by death.

And then his grand criminal plan was foiled when he noticed the car was stick shift, because he apparently drive stick.
Is that supposed to be English?

Being able to drive a car is rapidly becoming a lost art.

Geez. Kids today. Too bad the driver wasn’t packing. But, then again, we’d have us another saint trayvon profiling incident where king hussein could speak up for his possible son, if he had one, which he doesn’t. Just 2 young girls he doesn’t want “punished” with a baby. You know. Like his mom.

LOL! I've long suspected that an impulsive car thief would be foiled by a clutch and manual gearbox. If they know what they're going after, not so much.
An old column-shifted manual transmission is probably the ultimate in carjacker confusion.

This is similar to a story just a month or so ago from Maryland? when two fine upstanding citizens carjacked a Mercedes and after spotting a Porsche Turbo decided to add to their spoils. The smart Porsche owner did not resist but like in this case the car was abandoned as the miscreant could not drive a standard shift car

He Can't Drive StickOh, you can drive a car w/o knowing how to shift ...
... you just don't go real fast in 1st gear. That is, unless you're driving a Rambler ...
Beep Beep
Now we're going a hundred twenty
As fast as I can go
The Rambler pulled along side of me
As if we were going slow
The fella rolled down his window
And yelled for me to hear
"Hey buddy how do I get this car out of second gear?"

The carjacker may not also know how to start some stick-shift car. Mine I need to step on the clutch all the way down to start the car.

Too funny! “Chief Keef”? Guess he’s not much of a chief anymore...
That said, I can drive a stick and it’s the only reason I can easily rent a car in Europe. Most of the world doesn’t do automatics so there’s a premium for renting one.
Want to be really global? Learn to drive a stick.

Wow, the 5-speed stick in my Miata is a theft deterrent!* Who knew?
* That and the fact that it’s 22 years old and getting a little scruffy looking. :)

Lucky he didn't have to crank up the engine from up front as I had to when I was a little bitty kid.

I know of a lady who took her driving test in NJ at a rather late age. He let her use his restored Stanley Steamer. The motor vehicle folks weren’t too keen on the idea, but there was no law against it. :)

If you’re going to commit a crime, it pays to (1) know how to use whatever you’re intending to steal, and (2) not have a very distinctive appearance at the time. Oh, and most important of all, don’t be (3) stupid. Unfortunately for this guy, there’s no cure for #3.
Check out his mugshot - explains it all...

I drive a 5 speed on the floor and love it! I consider that since most thugs don’t know how to drive them it’s a bonus security system.
