Plus he’s also advocating intervention in Syria and saying “John McCain has it about right?”

Sheesh!

Another rich guy who thinks Obama’s America is no big deal. He’ll never suffer because of it, why should he be worried?

Things have changed alot in 5 years, most of all the attitude of the executive branch towards the American people. Perhaps Cheney, dealing with health problems and living outside the beltway, is not fully aware of this.

The big revelation -- and some people are a little slow in coming to this -- is that the Political Establishment is the Political Establishment.

There is no "Democrat".
There is no "Republican".
There is no "Hard Left".
There is no "Hard Right".

Of course, not everyone gets along, and Cheney may not really like Obama, or Boehner, or whomever -- but Cheney believes that Washington should run your life. Bush believes that. McCain believes that. Obama believes that. Valerie Jarrett believes that.

There is a reasonable chance that Sarah Palin does not believe that -- which is probably why the entire political class zipped into overdrive to make sure that she had no role in national government at all. They crushed her double-quick.

Because the Political Establishment want to control your entire life. You are not allowed to rise to the top (and Cheney was at the top for decades) unless you think that way.

I don't see why you are surprised, Cheney is an elitist statist while the Rats are socialist statists.

Neither are on your side, or ever have been.

The problem is not the program. The problem is the current occupant of the WH and his staff. In the corrupt hands of people like this, any and all programs will be misused.

Or maybe he’s just being realistic. Since the NSA was founded they’ve done what they want when they want with very little if any actual supervision. They were no cleaner when he and Bush were in the White House than they are now. Any organization that has the job of collecting secrets will never be under the control of people with public lives that fear secrets being revealed.

People don't remember, Cheney was never a conservative, throughout his career. he always worked for "liberals."

He worked for Nixon, then he was Chief of Staff for Ford. Then he was Secretary of Defense for Bush 41. If you worked for those people, you probably hate conservatives.

After watching former Vice President Dick Cheney I'm very disappointed.

You will find many, many supporters for that position here on FR. But not me.

Cheney is no angel but compared to the vast majority of Republicans and all Democrats he still looks good to me. As a test, name all the Republicans who are more trustworthy than Cheney. For most Freepers that is very short list. Sarah, Ted and the no longer with us Ronald and a couple others and that's it. All the rest are just lumped together and thrown under the bus and that includes Cheney and Bush.

That's a formula for a Perfect Storm in 2014 and 2016 - if you're a Democrat.

I’ve always respected Cheney as a man who was straight-forward and spoke honestly. I’ve found that people who are naturally honest expect honesty from others. Perhaps its just too engrained in him that the government is there to protect and not do harm. Unfortunately, he needs to come to grips with reality. We can no longer afford to trust our government...AT ALL on ANYTHING!

He's honest and consistent.

He's been saying he's for a more powerful executive branch for years. What do you think he meant by that?

Would you really want him to say, "I've always been for a powerful, intrusive spying apparatus at home and abroad, but I'm going to renounce this and attack Obama for purely political reasons?" Would that make you happy?

The problem with Cheney and many of his generation is that they think human history began the day they were born. Unlike the great minds, like Churchill, he has no perspective or understanding of the human condition or the role of government in it.

Those who do not understand or learn from history are fools that have no legacy. On the other hand, people like Churchill will never be forgotten.

As I said on another thread, after this NSA support (and the Syria/McCain support) along with the reminder that Cheney took a swipe at Sarah AND endorsed RINOe Dewhurst over Ted Cruz....Cheney's fallen way down the ladder/pedestal I had him on.

He says he "doesn't much care for" 0, though.

Whatever the program was, when he was in charge has been CHANGED and EXPANDED.

Sorry but the surveillance was wrong then and it's wrong now.

The program was reauthorized by Obama, the same Obama who was critical of it when Bush used it. At that point Obama owned it.

All he’s saying is Obama inherited the NSA surveillance program, right?

Why in God’s name are all these freakin R’s giving Obama & Co. cover ?

Really you honestly think Chaney does not realize he is not in office?
Or out of the loop?
