Supe's on! - Even with a darker take on the great American superhero (3-stars)...

Even with a darker take on the great American superhero, our favorite costumed good guy is still the man!

‘I grew up in Kansas,’’ says the dimpled superhero of the unabashedly crowd-pleasing blockbuster “Man of Steel’’ as he faces attempted rendition as an enemy alien. “I’m as American as they come.’’

Deploying an impeccable American accent, Brit Henry Cavill may be as charming as the late great Christopher Reeve — or Reeve’s unfortunate doppelganger Brandon Routh, who donned a more traditional Superman costume in “Superman Returns,’’ an underrated attempt to reboot the franchise seven years ago.

Man of Steel review. I have no idea if he is fighting for “the American way”

I’ll watch this movie on iTunes.
No theaters for me -haven’t been to a theater since, “30 Days of Night,” came out.
I hate crowds.
But, I’ve dreamed about flying like Superman since I was three.
(And, the last Superman movie was SOOO ghey!)

While I like this hunky Brit actor from past British roles he has played, enough already with the Superman movies...and Batman...and Xmen, etc.
T really shows how sad today’s script writers are educated as well as the general public who pays to watch this rot. IMO

This does not interest me. I saw the trailer, and it looks like just a bunch of CGI effects. That's all they make any more. The new Lone Ranger movie looks just like it. Also, I don't like the idea of changing a costume as iconic as Superman's.

Sounds to me is another Superman that has been poisoned by left-wing Hollywood (pushing illegal Amnesty this time). Just like the previous one where they removed "the American way" from his creed because the left wing Producers didn't want to be associated with the Bush Doctrine so rewrote Superman to be a "citizen of the world".

Na. That is so passe. Besides, America is evil and everything is our fault. Remember?

I hope the last Superman failed. The one where they couldn't say “American way” and instead said “all of that other stuff.” What a frickin joke.

AND, that is not a big red "S" but, rather, the Kryptonian symbol for "Hope!"

Hmmm...

Won't be seeing it. Hollywood needs to stop being lazy and rehashing the same stories over and over again. I'm okay with them cashing in with a well known franchise like Superman, but do something different for once. The audience is already well aware of Superman's bio and the "General Zod tries to take over earth" plot was done perfectly fine in Superman II and doesn't need to be retold.

I love how all the fanboys tell us this movie will be "different" because it's a "darker" and "more serious" Superman than the Christopher Reeve films. Where they living in a cave when Superman Returns came out 8 years ago and used the EXACT same marketing point? Making Superman angsty and brooding didn't improve the character, it just sucked all the fun out of the film. Rehashing the premise and villains of Superman I & II didn't help Returns either. (Zod was also supposed to be in Returns, but cut when they couldn't get Jude Law to play the part) Snyder, Goyer and their fanboys seem totally clueless why that film flopped because they're making the same mistakes.

Isn’t this the guy that made the 300 film, Zack Snyder? I may take a look at it.

If they wanted a different take on superman they should examine his origins more closely.

I think they could draw from the whole “envy” angle as in if there is someone that is doing better than others they get envied like what happened to the jewish people who culturally pushed their kids to excel, so when their kids inevitably excelled they would be viewed by others as “evil” because they did so much better than the average people in a country, because, duh, they were pushed harder to suceed by their parents because their parents wanted a better life for them. But the people who are not jewish viewd them with distrust because in their minds “they somehow had an advantage”... That advantage was actually a pushing by their parents to counter the original oppression...

Now what happens when you are born naturally better ie. Superman, but not just above average, but 1000X better than your average human, that sorta issue would be magnified 1000000X.

So you would have a LOT of people naturally distrusting superman because he is inherently better. You could explain that this is how Lex Luthor keeps escaping the grasp of the law because a lot of people in government see him as a human counterweight to superman and let him loose because they are insecure having an individual that is so powerful save them all of the time, so they turn to the Government to bail them out, and when it can’t they turn to a mastermind like Lex Luthor or in the Jews case, a Hitler or Stalin.

You could theoretically write a Superman Movie that was inherently pro individual and pro individual liberty that would make a LOT of sense...

But because they keep writing superman movies in a more “the collective is good” mentality, they will always be daft crap if they keep comming from hollywood...

Grace, that is an extremely well written and thought out response.

and 100% Correct!

they were pushed harder to suceed by their parents because their parents wanted a better life for them. But the people who are not jewish viewd them with distrust because in their minds “they somehow had an advantage”... That advantage was actually a pushing by their parents to counter the original oppression...

You are Righteous Grace, may G-d Bless you for that! We need Friends like you out there in the world!
