Actually this makes me very concerned. I’ve been Invited to a kindergarten graduation ceremony next week. Are these things typically dangerous? Perhaps I should just come up with an excuse why I cannot attend.

you haven’t been around too many mexican family gatherings for graduations, or those 16 yr-old girl-becoming-woman parties families pay bookoo bucks for. huge family branches get together, get way drunk, and it only takes two drunk relatives with grievances starting a fight.

In ghetto culture, the worst thing that can happen to anyone is to be “dissed”. And the response to being “dissed” must be violent, again, according to ghetto cultural norms. This is, oddly, very similar in spirit to the old "code of honor" among European aristocracy and 19th century American wannabee aristocrats. Failure to resent an insult and respond, if necessary, violently, would result in exclusion from polite society as a man who had lost his honor.
But the old guys went about "defending their honor" in a much more civilied fashion.
