Florida man tricked pregnant girlfriend into taking abortion pill, police say

TAMPA, FL, May 16, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A 28-year-old Florida man faces life in prison after he tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking medication that killed their child, police say. Remee Jo Lee with Andrew Welden Remee Jo Lee with Andrew Welden

Andrew Welden told her that a doctor's visit revealed that she had an infection and gave her a bottle of Cytotec (misoprostol) that he had falsely labeled as “Amoxicillin.”

Remee Jo Lee, 26, was just shy of seven weeks pregnant with a child she wanted to carry.

She says John Andrew Welden, who goes by his middle name, told her to take three pills a day, but after taking the first she began bleeding profusely.

She drove to the hospital and passed out, awaking on Easter morning surrounded by her own blood. When medical staff informed her that her baby had died, she was heartbroken.

“Every woman dreams of becoming a mom,” she said. “I was never going to do anything but go full-term with it, and he did not want me to.”

"I cannot believe someone did something so malicious to me, and to himself," Lee told local media. "It was our baby.” Remee Jo Lee Remee Jo Lee

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Muldrow confirmed, “She had a name for the baby she wanted to have.”

U.S. Magistrate Judge Anthony Porcelli charged Welden on Wednesday with one count of first-degree murder for the death of his child, as well as product tampering with reckless disregard for Remee's safety.

If convicted, Welden will face life in prison.

He reportedly obtained the pills – which Lee referred to as his “weapon of choice” – by forging his father's signature on a prescription. Welden's father, an OB-GYN, is not implicated.

In addition to criminal charges, Lee is suing her former love for $15,000.

Officers say the younger Welden confessed his actions at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Pro-life advocates say this is a foreseeable side effect of the abortion lobby's efforts to promote access to chemical abortion.

“Misoprostol is a favorite of international abortion advocates. Several groups are working to make misoprostol easy to obtain – by anyone,” writes Wendy Wright atC-FAM.org. “Pro-life advocates warn that easy access to misoprostol will result in women with wanted pregnancy being forcibly aborted.”

Guys have no rights to determine if they want the baby or not.

Only moms get to murder their child if they don’t want it.

This is the irony.

If the woman wanted to take the pill and murder her baby, society would applaud her, not bring her up on murder charges.

When the dad doesn’t want the child, it’s murder.

The stupidity is IN BOTH CASES IT’S MURDER, but we only prosecute one person for murder.

Nope. If he had the same rights as the woman, he would not be being brought up on murder charges.

If mom took the pill because she wanted to murder her child, she would not be brought up on murder charges.

This is just one of the hypocritical idiosyncracies of this whole issue that is just legalizing insanity.

I hope he fries.

Millenials and leftists have the same mindset on “hypocrisy”.

They are able to accept contradictory assertions as both or all true at the same time.

I think he did a despicable thing.

But if he was a woman, he wouldn’t have to forge signatures and trick anyone into taking it.

I think women who can, without any trickery, buy this same pill on their own, and take it to murder their own child, are no different than this man. They are both “exercising” their right to choose.

Until people understand and equate that it doesn’t matter what gender or parent decides to murder their child, it is murder in either case, we are just supporting the hypocrisy and illogic that when mom doesn’t want the baby, it’s not murder, but if dad doesn’t want the baby and decides to exercise his right to choose, it’s murder. Otherwise we just are enabling the double-standard the left is totally happy with promoting because it fits the woman-victim-good, man-aggressor-bad worldview template they love framing issues with.

You are 100% correct.

If a mother kills an unborn child with or without the father’s consent it is “an exercise of her sacred right to reproductive freedom”.

If a father kills an unborn child without the mother’s consent it is murder.

This clearly illustrates the insanity and depravity of legalized abortion. It is murder whether the mother or the father, or both kill the child.

Oh you’re right, she could do it and probably wouldnt have to buy the pill if she didn’t want to.

The taxpayers would pay for it.

This is the insanity of the law. It’s not murder if it is a certain person doing the murdering. Moms are the only class of people in America that can legally murder another person. If they don’t want them, they can murder another person.

This is the sickness of America. The warping of law to protect the wicked and punish the innocent.

The Ayn Rand quote about this has been tossed around a lot today. I’d just add in “Any excuse for a tyrant.”

Looks and sounds to me like she is the sexual aggressor. Also seems doubtful that she would have “kept” the baby.

Yup, equal protections applies regarding the murder charge.

He’ll get nailed on the prescription forgery and a variety of assault charges for dosing the woman. Probably a lot worse than what pranksters get for dropping ExLax into someone elses drink.

I think the Murder 1 charge is just an incentive to get him to quickly plead down to lesser charges.

no.

i think your response proves you have no problem with mom having 100% control over whether their child lives or dies regardless of what dad wants, but if dad does the very same thing regardless of what mom wants, you have no problem with him being charged with murder.

What part of this story leads you to conclude that she is the aggressor? Just because she wanted to keep the baby?

I feel so sorry for this young lady, I can’t even imagine how I would feel if I loved someone and he betrayed me in this way.
