Following the luncheon, the royals headed over to the Wilmington river front where they boarded a replica ship of the Kalmar Nykel. . . .

My 13th-generation grandfather, Peter Gunnarsson Rambo, came over on the original Kalmar Nyckel, on the second voyage (1639-40), and he was one of the founders of New Sweden.

Ping to the Swedish Ping List.

And mine came over on the first voyage of the KN in 1638. He was about 18, although his actual DOB is unknown. His name was Peter Andersson. He was a crew member on the Kalmar Nykel and contemporary of Peter Rambo who stayed on in New Sweden to become the skipper of the Governor’s yacht. (The Governor established his home on an island and needed a yacht to get around the short-lived colony.) He returned to Sweden via Amsterdam to collect back wages from the company and to marry. He brought his wife back to New Sweden where they raised a son who became the patriarch of a long line of descendants, including me.

Please add me to the Swedish ping list.
