It's been a rough end to what started out as a record-breaking season for openly gay characters on the small screen.

You mean no more Alec Baldwin?
Most TV shows fail.
So I guess when all of them feature gay characters, we truly can write “axes fall hard on gay characters”....
Gimme my rainbow back.
And it never will be normal.
First JC Penney, now this. May the politicians making a big deal about the gay basketball player be next.
I would guess that a fair number of people think something like, “Well, if gay people want to do this or that . . . it’s their business.” Maybe not a majority, but a pretty good percentage.
But that’s a long way from wanting to sit down and watch gay people doing their thing on a TV show.
In other words, if the TV moguls want to run a TV show about a gay couple, OK, fine. They shrug. But they don’t have any interest in watching it. And there isn’t a lot of profit in a TV show that hardly anyone wants to watch.
But they want to make it our business, by shoving it in our faces....as has been quoted many times here, “The love that dare not speak its’ name, is now the love that won’t shut the hell up.”
Please tell me that waiting rooms will no longer be bombarded with “Ellen” on the TV screens.
Maybe they'll wise up and bring back Mayberry RFD and Petticoat Junction. :-)
If there are any left, the axe didn’t fall hard enough.
axes fall hard on gay characters.
Sounds like a creative idea for a new kinky show for next year. First, a little whip me, beat me and then the axe falls. Yes, very possible from Hollywood.
Hopefully, America’s obsession with the homosexuals is wearing off and they are ready to move on to the “next big thing”. All of the homosexual bull**** all of the time is really getting old. It’s time for the low information types to MoveOn and leave the obnoxious homosexual crap to the politicians.
My wife and I quit watching ScyFy “Lost Girl” when they introduced the lezbo crap.
No matter how much they try an foist faggotry on us, it is still repulsive to 99% of us.
Sodomy is Seattle (Gray’s Anatomy) is still going but hopefully not for much longer.
The more they push it...the more we will rebel.
I used to enjoy a TV show called ‘White Collar’. I thought it was fun, and the characters were good. Then I found out the star of the show is a turd poker who is “married” to another, man and they have adopted little boys. Never watched the show again. How could I?
Please tell me you left off the /Sarc tag. You do know he played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island?
Here is the problem they face. They surround themselves with like minded people all day long. They think,” everyone will like this show” Then they wonder how there numbers could be tanking.... Its math dude. 2% of the population is gay. They are aiming at that crowd to purchase products from their adds. They should look at what happened to JC pennys in a few months. They will never learn.
You know the 'G' stood for "Walter"? Maynard explained that "the 'G' is silent".
Wow, someone actually pays attention to these sorts of things.
No they don't. Criminal or deviant diversity doesn't count.
Forget a koranimal comedy series.
Forget about the 'happy Pedophile.'
Forget about the 'Happy Long Term kidnapper of multiple women' miniseries.
Forget about the happy bisexual Hookers series.
I can only speak for myself, but of the series introduced in the last five years, which began with all "normal heterosexual" characters, as soon as a hint of perverts appeared, I ceased watching completely. I know I had lots of company, although the deviant crowd cried and moaned about somethingphobia!!
Even otherwise well produced popular series are not immune. Torchwood is the most visible suicidal show I can think of. Blatant pervert scenes dropped over half their healthy audience in just a couple of months. 'Revenge' was another one.
Even the most popular long term action series, NCIS, Warehouse 13, and Revenge come to mind, have toyed dangerously with the gay propaganda story line, but managed to avoid the stupidity of 'in your face' sustained pervert stories.
“I would guess that a fair number of people think something like, Well, if gay people want to do this or that . . . its their business. Maybe not a majority, but a pretty good percentage.”
I think you are right.
However, it’s the agenda that dogs most people. The subtle indoctrination in Elementary schools, infiltrating our institutions for the purpose of pushing the agenda, and using discrimination laws to force those of faith to marry them when there are plenty of alternatives, are some of the most troubling.
Reminds me of some ilk like "Shakedown" Jackson, saying that since the gub'mint employs more than its share of blacks, people that want a smaller government are racists.
In other words, enough of that faggotry!
Many MANY years ago in Chicago, a young cartoonist friend of mine recited to me for a good three minutes an entire episode of
Petticoat Junction, ending with “so then he took one last puff on his cigar and lovingly put it down on a nearby ledge”.
Then he paused and said “NOTHING HAPPENED IN THE ENTIRE SHOW”.I LOVED IT!” He was also around that time much enamored of a TV movie he’d just seen, called KILLDOZER, about a bulldozer that went around killing people, way before Steven King ever though of it.
Never was and never will be.
Even the State of California's attempt to criminalize opposition to the pervert lifestyle must fail. Freedom of association can never force anyone to associate with koranimals or perverts.
Yeah, me too. Same with Dr. Who spinoff Torchwood. They have a right to be gay and I have a right to change the channel.
Snork! I don't use a /sarc tag - I think it's an insult to my fellow FReepers.
But your question - you ARE aware that the Captain and Gilligan were in a long-standing homosexual relationship? What do you think "little buddy" really meant? And don't EVEN get me started about Ginger and Mary Anne...
Yes, I'm kidding...
Women and Children Hardest Hit
Does this meant they will be come transgendered characters?
Now it's on to new horizons (or new lows, depending on your point of view). Question is, what will be the new front on the war on morality? Incest? Bestiality? Necrophilia? Not quite yet, IMO. Something slightly less unsavory, yet still cutting-edge.
Multiamory? I guess that's what you call group relations without marriage. There are already shows with serial love affairs between characters - temporary liasons where the partners switch as time goes by. Likewise, there are ensemble shows where multiple characters interact as a group. They live communally, but without engaging in explicit sexual relations. A little script work and these partnerships become simultaneous and sexual - a group marriage without the paperwork.
Another possibility is to explore intergenerational love. I see a show with a cast of "cougars" who routinely score with barely-legal teens. There's friction, of course, because of missed communication between the older and younger lovers, and hilarity ensues...
There has never been a demand for gay characters unless they are comedic. I guarantee if you polled the public and asked what they want more of on tv gayness would rank near the bottom but of course Hollywood and media far too often are about what they want rather than what the consumers want. Most heterosexuals don’t want to watch gay love stories/kissing etc. I don’t mind gay characters provided they are relevant to the story rather than some kind of forced dynamic sanitized for public consumption.
See, Paul Lynde.
I think it was maybe ten - fifteen years ago they had a special on about Gilligan's Island. One actor basically turned it into a gay issues soap box. The guy who played the professor I think had a gay offspring or something like that.
Thanks for the reminder.
Funny thing, the recent most visible down-In-flames outer space soap opera failed immediately, and is not even mentioned: Stargate Universe. Homo suicide, among other things. A merciful death.
Every other version of the Stargate franchise can be categorized as successful.
Jennifer or Bailey?
As far as I was concerned, Bailey in a landslide.
Russell Johnson. Sad story, really, because he was a genuine war hero who was a friend of Audie Murphy. I have a lot of respect for the guy. One of his kids died of AIDS.
