Back when this happened I had an uneasy feeling about it. Too much of a coincidence. Right after Osama was killed. Was the Taliban tipped off to setup an ambush as some sort of appeasement?

Exactly. I wondered the same thing. Why did the Soros Administration leak the story of the loss of so many elite warriors except as a favor to the mohammedans to let them know that they had been successful?
