It can be funny to poke fun at ourselves, our culture, our states and regions, etc. But when humor is just an expression of thinly vieled hate, the humor is lost. Today, the left mocks the “South” which is code for Christian, conservative, or traditionalist.
Not necessarily. In Spain there are about 2.6 million Basques, but that number is much reduced because of the “Basque diaspora”, mostly to South America, where Argentina has some 3.5 million, and Chile has from 2-4 million. Cuba has 1.5 million.
Indeterminate as to how many are “pure Basque”, genetically.
In any event, in Spain and France, they are not only linguistically unique, Basque is not a Romance language, but they still use some cultural artifacts unique to them, that may go back to the Stone Age.
One example is that they are the only people known in Spain or France, ancient to almost modern times, who made leather straps by taking a hide, and making a thin spiral cut outward to it, resulting in a continuous strap that was quite long and unbroken. This is such a practical technique that today there are some machines to do just that.
