Time travel does far less violence to the current understanding of physics than does interstellar travel. Humans from 100,000 years hence actually have a vested interest in visiting and making some changes or taking samples. It explains why they are avoiding DC/London/Moscow and visiting remote areas.

I’m not claiming it’s actually happening; just pointing out relative liklihoods.

I have a question. If I traveled through time wouldn’t I just show up in empty space considering not just the movement of the earth but also the solar system as a whole?

The problem with time travel is it would also require interstellar travel, in that the Sun is traveling at 486,000 miles per hour around the center of the milky way (about 250 km/s). And the Milky Way is traveling through space at 630 km per second. The speed of light is 299 792.458 km/s. So for every 340 years of time you travel you also have to travel roughly one light year, which would take a couple of years, assuming you had a serious means of propulsion. (This is just adding the speeds, which is wrong, but you get the idea.)

Where will the solar system be in space 100,000 years in the future of our now? ... The problem of traveling immense distance is not erased just because someone wantes to postulate time travel. Our solar system and galaxy are moving at an incredible speed from, to somewhere. 100,000 years from our now, the entire galaxy and our solar system will be a huge distance from our now location.

The thing about time travel I never get is the distance issue. If I were to go back in time, the spot I occupy now would be empty space. The earth would not have gotten here yet.
