LOL! I have a "VaroScope" made by Varo Corp in Garland, TX. It uses a silicon target (made by Texas Instruments) that is sensitive in the near infrared. It's great for examining the exhaust manifold on your (running) car engine for cracks, etc...

Had no idea that Varo was "into" UFOs...

“The Varo Edition” is actually quite interesting, being an annotated versiom of Jessup’s book, made prior to Jessup being found dead in his car and being connected to the so-called “Allende letters”. The annotations are a mystery. The whole book was typed out and run through an office duplicator, in two colors. The manufacturer, Varo, was doing contract work for the military and the edition was for a closed circle of military readers.

The commenters (evidently three of them), claims knowledge of UFO technology and of what happened aboard the USS Eldridge, supposed to be a navy experiment with an undetectable ship.

Darn thing came into my hands in a way almost as mysterious as the original mystery - I’d ordered the plain book, which was readily available at the time, but what plonked down at my bookseller was this still almost non-existent item :).
