Well I certainly agree about The Doors, but I know very few musicians who don’t recognize the likes of Pink Floyd and Marley as true innovators with extraordinary talent.
Floyd’s lyrics in The Wall might be “self centered” but the work itself is universally recognized as a piece of musical genius. Marley created a completely new, fresh, and thrilling sound from the Trenchtown slums - did about 10 things extraordinarily well and was the first to do them - and that’s more than I can say even for the Rolling Stones.
On the political business, if that were a criterion I’d never enjoy a music track or a Hollywood movie.
There’s only two Pink Floyd albums I care to listen to, Dark Side of the Moon and Animals.
The Wall doesn’t do it for me.
People that know Pink Floyd from the beginning know what innovators they were. When the Weattles were being poser hippies, Floyd had 2 years of Pyschidellic Music under their belt. Syde Barrett was a lyrical Genius. And Pink Floyd were the first to use alot of mixing and sound effects that set the tone for many many musicians to follow. Say what you will but future bands owe alot to Pink Floyd.
