Self-proclaimed co-founder, who seems to really have had nothing to do with it. The big names who actually made it more or less official were Gaylord Nelson (D-WI, who picked the hundredth anniversary of Lenins birth as the first Earth Day) and U Thant (third UN secretary general) who along with UNESCO (yeah, them) wanted it to be observed on or near the northern hemispheres spring equinox.
As for Einhorn himself, he seems troubled by demons. Look at his eyes in this set of photos . . .

It’s probably something like what these folks do:
http://adopt.nature.org/faq.html
Basically, people donate, they use the donation money to buy plots of land in areas considered vulnerable - which probably means those that might get developed (deforested, etc.), and they keep ownership of that land to prevent such development.
As a biologist, I’m not sure if that’s quite enough to offset the carbon emissions of a race car, in that you’re right - the trees were already there, she’s just paying so they stay there.

If you adopt an acre of rainforest, can you claim it as a dependent on your 1040?

Since we got eight inches of snow on Earth Day, I invite this young lady to drive past the burning tires in my driveway, in the hopes they’ll bring on some desperately needed ‘global warming’.
