There have been three Klans, at least.

None of the successors have any line of direct descent or continuity with the first one.

They’re all scum, though. The Klan of the 20’s was by far the most successful. My Dad used to tell a story of his father taking him to a recruiting meeting in KS around 1922, when he was 12. My dad said it was very impressive, but his father smelled a rat and didn’t join up. The 20s Klan was actually more powerful outside the South, contrary to the popular opinion.

The 20s Klan fell apart in the late 20s, very largely because of the rape and murder of a young woman by Klan leaders. Kind of put a crimp in their moralistic posturing.
