That's one thing, but there are other factors that play in as well.
A surprisingly large number of black children are from Urban ghetto areas and 70% are the children of single, unwed mothers who have histories of several generations of cumulative drug and alcohol abuse.
Many of these kids have serious fetal alcohol or drug syndrome problems with brain and nervous system damage and impairment which reduces the fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination needed to be a serious baseball player, as well as general cognitive functions. The various levels of motor impairment, hyperactivity, attention deficit, impulse control and anger management problems of people with fetal substance abuse issues makes it even harder to excel at baseball
While you don't have to be a genius to play baseball, intelligence and fast thinking are definite edge in baseball.
The same decline is true in the music industry. How many Stevie Wonders, Jimmy Hendricks, Diana Ross Grover Washington's or Aretha Franklins do you see these days.
Music used to be the place where true artistry and musical talent trumped race and was a traditional area where gifted African Americans could excel despite race and some truly amazing talents have chosen this route.
How many serially talented black musicians are on the scene?
Not as many as there used to be.
Most are doing rap and the only tting they know how to play is a boom box.
A lot of it has to do with the cumulative effects of 5 generations of welfare dependence and drug and alcohol abuse in the African American community.
The chaotic gangster lifestyle does mesh well with baseball either, while it meshes much better with basketball.
I am sure there will soon be a study of the now-extinct white cornerback and runningback in the NFL.
As one who played a lot of baseball as a kid and raised 4 sons, I encouraged and coached my boys in baseball. Each one left it for lacrosse. Our culture has changed over time, and MLB carries a lot of the responsibility for the decline in baseball’s popularity with a lot of kids. They got greedy, and for all that the reserve clause was illegal, it certainly did so much for kids to identify with their teams and their teams’ players. Free agency ruined a lot of the attachments to the teams’ identities and the kids are not as emotionally attached as they were in the old days. There are exceptions like the Yankees and Red Sox but players also are coming and going to the highest bidder.
The decline in American Blacks’ interest in baseball is due in no small part to LBJ’s Great Society. Baseball was something kids enjoyed with their fathers and was something Dad passed down. We all know what the Welfare State did to fathers in the home. The culture suffered and baseball as part of the culture is lost to a large part of Black society.
“I would like to see a commission study why Blacks are dramatically over represented on TV and the movies.”
Liberal white guilt. Funny. I work in the biz here in Hollywood yet not one of my “friends” in the industry keep casting blacks when hispanics and Asians are not represented when they have more the spending ability than blacks and a larger group than blacks?
I guess I missed the other important story about the almost total decline of white players in the NBA.
Can someone cite the origin and date of that study?
Today baseball is played by organized teams, little league, high school, college etc. There is no longer just kids out playing ball. It’s probably different in Latino countries. When I was kid there was hoards of kids playing ball at the parks or just playing catch. Now black kids do nothing but dribble basketballs. And with the HUGE democrat approved lack of black kids graduating, they sure aren’t going to become baseball players.
they get more money from football..
So when do we see a national committee to investigate why fewer White males are playing basketball?
This is just more reverse-racist bullsh*t.
Came here to post the same.
Snap.
You know what would solve the problem?
Send black players to special developmental league system solely for them, where they would not have to compete unfairly against more privileged white and Hispanic players.
I can’t believe no one has thought of this idea before.
I doubt Prince Fielder is regretting his $215 million.
In baseball you don’t get to “chest pound”, “styling” is limited to watching a long fly and trotting around the bases. No “face to face” confrontations. Not much “self-serving congratulations”. The “brush back” cures all.
Yup.
plus in places like chicago you can get shot playing stick ball.
