We were sending money to NK at the time to keep North Koreans from starving. Meanwhile, Kim Jung Il was sending $30,000 a year to send his kid to a posh Swiss school...

I think this is a good thing. He got a real education, unlike his countrymen who say “Dear Leader” all the time. Imagine if he was also indoctrinated by his father/grandfather in the manner of the common man in NK?

Yeah, but his education was cut short after his half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, who was previously the favored heir, fell afoul of the father for being too “Westernized”. They pulled him out of the European schools and finished his education at elite North Korean military academies.

This is very, very funny... even if the photos turn out to be of Kim's brother, as the national media are now reporting is likely.

Imagine what it would be like to lead a nation and have your impressions of America be based mostly on Hollywood movies and participation in a school performance of Grease.

Lots of ordinary citizens in Third World countries get their impression of America that way. Usually the elites have a more accurate understanding of America, either from firsthand knowledge or from senior government leaders who have spent time overseas. But North Korea has been isolated for so long that most North Koreans, even in the highest levels of leadership, probably know little or nothing firsthand about the West, let alone America.

In Kim Jong Un’s case, his understanding of America may very well be framed mostly by watching American television, movies, and NBA basketball games.

Too bad we can't offer to let Kim invest in an NBA franchise and a Hollywood movie studio to earn cash for his country rather than the drug enterprises and counterfeiting that North Korean has done for years.
