I have several WD units of various sizes.
They do require a USB board with good power connections to run them.
If any external drive doesn’t show up on the computer, it means that your usb port isn’t delivering enough power to operate the drive.
Get a better USB card.
External Hard drives: Western Digital or Seagate?
Pick one. Don't worry about it.
I have a Seagate 1 TB drive, no problems or issues with it. Seagate also owns Maxtor - I have had trouble with an older Maxtor drive.
I run macrium here, and it’s very good.
Seagate is good. Not sure about the other.
All are .. and have been .. working fine, quietly and quickly. I must admit though that I prefer the Fantoms because they are designed to be used horizontally or vertically while the Seagate that I have can only be used horizontally.
As an aside, all of the internal hard drives that I have are Seagate.
Seagate is good. Not sure about the other.
LOL. I used to work at Tempo for years, the restaurant Boca was before it was bought out. My buddies work there lol. I’ve been wondering how it is. Never been. Too weird..
I just had an external Western Digital, “My Book” fail. Sadly it has family pictures on it and I will need to send it out for recovery.
Have you sent any hard drives out for recovery? Who do you recommend?
In the past I used OnTrack. Excellent service. Expensive, but they have tools you can try yourself before sending it to them. Worth checking out, IMO.
I never do send any HD for recovery. Too many skeletons and private stuff in them. the best way for recovery? have a copy and yeah, I also have a Mybook WD EXTHD.
