Saturday's Pool D World Baseball Classic game between Canada and Mexico saw plenty of aggressive play before devolving into an extended and ugly brawl in the ninth inning. After a number of hard slides and a collision at the plate involving Mexico's Karim Garcia, Arnold Leon threw two pitches at Canada's Rene Tosoni, sparking a bench-clearing fight between the teams.

“Those Americans are SO violent”.....Err.
Damn, are they trying to turn baseball into soccer?
Those Americans are SO violent.....

Canada, the US and Mexico are all North Americans. Then you have Central America and South America.
ALL are Americans, if you apply the same practice of naming people based on the large classification of their continent; i.e., Europeans, Africans, Asians, etc.
Not picking at you, Amberdawn. It’s just one of those little irritants that stir me up when the term “American” is used to only refer to people in the US.
I similarily get riled when people use the term “Native American” instead of American Indian, which properly refers to the Indians throughout the continent. ...I’m a native American, since I was born here; but, I’m NOT an American Indian. Most of Amerind heritage that I have talked with about this indicate they prefer to be called American Indians.
Sorry to all for being so wordy. Just thoughts I had to get out.
“ALL are Americans, if you apply the same practice of naming people based on the large classification of their continent; i.e., Europeans, Africans, Asians, etc.”
“Americans” for all it matters, refers solely to the citizens
of the United States. Canada is the hat of the North American
continent and Mexico the socks. Mexicans are not Americans
and the same for Canadians. In your context, “North American”
would be true. Who wants to be called that?
I’ve heard others say this as well, and there is movement afoot to rename U.S. citizens. So, what will we be call ourselves? “United Statesians”?
What about South America? You know, that little land mass mostly below the Equator?
I want to know who the idiots were that let Mexican fans get behind the Canadian dugout and start bombing the Canadian players with bottles after the brawl. There was apparently a large loud Mexico contingent at the game—no surprise in Phoenix, I guess.
I bet ICE agents could’ve done a land-office business in that crowd if they had a few (dozen) southbound buses ready in the parking lot.

So, major leaguers can play in this tourney? I'll bet this guy gets a lot of fan support at home games in L.A.
ping
To all- please ping me to Canadian topics.
Canada Ping!
I missed the brawl. They have a run differential formula in case of matching win/losses between teams in the same round, bunting for a hit while 5+ runs ahead is what the guy got hit for. The mexican players must not have known that you have to keep tacking on in case there are tied records.
I’m just sad RA Dickey got shelled in the first game, I hope he gets a chance to have the knuckleball working better if they advance. When it’s on it is something else.
Freegards
Canadians turn everything into a hockey game.
Based solely on personal experience and anecdotal evidence, growing up in severe cold makes you a bit of a prick.
As far as I’m concerned, the Americans are us here in the USA.
Canadians aren’t Americans, Mexicans are not Ameicans.
