Accused toe biter in jail after surrendering
Santa Fe police said Thursday that the man accused of biting off part of his ex-girlfriend’s big toe turned himself at city police headquarters Wednesday morning during a three-day search for him.
Daniel Anaya, 27, was booked into Santa Fe County jail at about 10 a.m. Wednesday on charges of burglary, false imprisonment, interference with communications and aggravated battery against a household member. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Police say his ex-girlfriend claims he broke into her house Sunday and forced her to the ground after asking if he could smell her feet, then removed her shoes and socks and bit off the tip of her left big toe. The woman was treated at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center following the assault.
Anaya worked weekends in the shoe department at Dillard’s in Santa Fe Place mall and is a student at Santa Fe Community College.
