I’m happy for him. Let’s hope his grades are as good.

win over opponents Mount Vernon in a New York high school game on Sunday.

When did high schools begin playing games on Sunday?

What transpired here was that there were two basketball teams engaged in a close game. One of the basketball players playing for the team that was down by two points grabbed the basketball and with less than a second left on the clock, hurled the ball towards the net from more than halfway across the court.

The basketball went right into the net as time expired.

The end result was that "three points" was credited to the scoring team, giving them the victory by a single point - as a result of the scoring player being well outside the 3-point circle.

In conclusion, what we saw here was a basketball travelling more than halfway across the basketball court and precisely falling through the net. The player throwing this ball seems to have clearly intended for this to happen as he appeared to be aiming directly for the net.

Well, sometimes prayers go in. I don't keep a mental log of these things unless they involve one of my teams. Does anyone know what the record buzzer beater is?

It was all set up, of course, by that lazy turnover by the kid in white, who just flipped the ball in the air for the takeaway.

Same thing happened at my school back in the 50’s.

Just a lucky shot that’s all.
Our basketball court by the way was so small that one row of chairs was set up down the sideline and if you didn’t keep your feet under the chair they were in the court. The Gym wall at the end of the court had pads to keep you off the bricks and the stage had seating. This kid shot at the baske from under the opposite basket when he retrieved a shot from the other team, threw it like a baseball and it went in. Just luck.

I saw the kid and his coach being interviewed on ESPN. They seemed likeable and delighted to be there.

Only question I had is isn’t this done all the time? What was so unusual about it?

Its a big deal and it may have been championship. However it seems that the media made this out much bigger then usual

Great shot but the referees should not have counted the score. The shot was made after the game was legally over. If you watch the video of the ending of the game in slow-motion, frame-by-frame, it shows the player with the basketball still in his hands when the clock runs down to zero-zero-zero. He made the throw and the shot AFTER the clock had expired.
