I've planted some catnip, but it's out under the cold frame, and not big enough yet to give them. I'm hoping that next year, I'll have enough greens in the house to distract them from the stuff I seriously need for canning.

I have a huge catnip plant growing right where they can get at it, and they couldn’t care less. What they DO go batsh*t for are the one-gallon pots of ‘cat grass’ that I sprout for them...it comes up just a few days after it is sown, and the cats LOVE it. Keep the barf bucket handy, though...
Cat Grass! Germinates in 3-4 days, and is ready for them in a week or so. Small containers or flats of it keeps the kitties happy.
It is a specific (if you can believe the descriptions) variety of oats. Ours go nuts for it, and leave the rest of the plants alone; same with two of our friends.
Some times it is in the pet section of stores; others have it on the seed racks; or order it online..
Some comes with its own container & potting mix; or you can buy regular or jumbo sized packets of just the seed.
