The Obama administration on Monday warned the nation to expect an increase in illegal immigration if the automatic budget cuts go into effect Friday the latest caution from a White House determined to raise the heat on congressional Republicans.
President Obama has framed the choice as one between higher taxes or lower security, bolstered by Homeland Security Secretary Janet A. Napolitanos warning Monday that the U.S. Border Patrol will be forced to furlough agents, costing nearly a quarter of the workforce.
I dont think we can maintain the same level of security, Ms. Napolitano said. If you have 5,000 fewer Border Patrol agents, you have 5,000 fewer Border Patrol agents.
But Republicans said the White House is setting up a false choice between tax increases and security. They said the other alternative is to make $85 billion in spending cuts in other parts of the budget, rather than the across-the-board cuts that make up the sequester.
Indeed, Republican Senate aides said they likely will offer a plan to give the administration flexibility to protect key missions when the chamber debates the spending cut package this week. Senate Democrats have proposed a 30 percent minimum tax on the wealthy and cutting agriculture subsidies in order to head off the cuts. Neither plan is expected to pass.

Obama is so full of crap.
It’s his frickin plan, why is he crying?
Lets just try it and see what happens,
Juice up the military and stop their cuts and cut the rest.
Cut their government freebies?
Is there any plan to cut government welfare spending? Will they cut off service to the Obamaphones? limit welfare ATM withdrawals at casinos? stop EBT cards being used at restaurants?
“This is Y2K all over again.”
I would point out there were legitimate technical issues that had to addressed and corrected, or Y2K would have been a significant problem. The sequester rhetoric has no basis in truth.
It appears that Obama thinks it's more important to first cut fivolous things like firemen and air traffic controllers before we look at reducing the essentials you identify.
Illegal traffic will pickup with or without sequester, the administration is inviting them in with talk of amnesty. They will blame it on sequester this time, but it happens every time amnesty is brought up.
Amazing to me that the Obama administration is equating an unsecure border with terrorism threat. WOW... How many of us have argued that point for years and no admission from D.C. that it was related in any way, no matter who was in the White House.
Those benefits are certain to NOT be cut.
Border security???*ROFL*
How can it lapse more than what it is now????
Good Lord. Since when has Obongo worried about immigrants flooding into this country?
I wonder if they realize illegals have been flooding the border for 25 years?
Then it should be impeachment for Obama, and treason for Napolitano.
The R’s should just hold their ground and mock the White House. Make Obama’s worst fear come true. Prove to people he is full of shit when they see nothing in their world changes come March 1st.
Just lay off all of TSA.
:)
They have already planned to cause the maximum amount of chaos on March 1. If people notice a degradation of essential functions it is entirely deliberate and willful.
In fact, their strategists admit that the worst thing that could happen for them in the sequester is that people don’t notice it.
I doubt this administration even has 5,000 agents on the southern border to cut.
Every few years, DC gets buried under a couple feet of snow. The city shuts down for an entire week. And nobody throughout the rest of the country even notices, because the majority of these Fed workers are “non-essential.”
Sara Johnson authorizes Jan the Man to lay off the airport sex pistols in order to implement a border control policy.
The likihood of Jan finding a bomb Sara Johnson’s crotch or butt is ziltch....same with the handicapped three year old in the wheelchair behind Sara Johnson in line.
