NEWARK, N.J., - A photo of a creature caught in a New Jersey river has been stirring controversy on the entertainment website Reddit over whether or not it is Photoshopped.
The picture was posted on Reddit about a week ago by a user called "jlitch" with the headline "Friend also caught this fishing in NJ," The (Newark, N.J.,) Star-Ledger reported Sunday.
Since it has been posted, it has been viewed more than 1.2 million times and has received more than 2,000 comments, some of which questioned the authenticity of the photo.
Jlitch posted additional photos three days that shows a wider shot of the fisherman who snatched the animal using a bow and arrow to quell the Photoshop rumors.
The website Outdoor investigated the photo and said the creature pictured is likely a sea lamprey, an eel-like parasites with a mouth full of jagged teeth.
Sea lampreys start their lives in The Great Lakes and move to the sea and have been more recently moved into streams in New Jersey.

I totally agree. I watch all the old stand-alone shows on Netflix and skip the alien shows.

Saw that when it was originally was posted. There was a comment that it resembled something from the movie “Tremors”. Not that it was a photoshop of it, mind you, but that’s what it reminded him of.

even so - this ugly bugger is a big one - pop and I used to fish for lake trout in NY back in the 70's - most had marks, but we'd get the occasional eel to accompany our trout....pretty scary as i recall - the ones we'd see were about 12"......
for an extra 10 points - what is the larval lamprey called?

Based upon the title, I thought this was another thread about what Moochelle wore during her Oscar presentation.

Read about those during the 1960s. The textbook said that lampreys lived in the great lakes.

You must have a leak in your stilsuit.
I wish to know what the giant sandworms of Dune eat to produce the spice

I heard someone here say “you must have a leak in your stillsuit” here on FR many years ago and I love to say it every chance I get.
But seriously what did they eat?
