COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Community leaders held a rally against hate crimes outside Compton City Hall Saturday in the wake of a Latino gang’s attack on an African-American teen boy.
They were joined by a passionate crowd of Hispanic and African-American residents who stood together in an act of unity.
“It doesn’t represent the whole 100,000 people that live in Compton. There’s a lot of Hispanics and a lot of blacks and we live together, we know how to live together,” Compton youth minister Eddie Arellano said of the hate crime.
The Los Angeles County sheriff’s Department says the attack occurred on New Year’s Eve in Compton. An African-American teen boy was walking to his house on 153rd Street when a Latino gang confronted him and beat him with rocks and a metal pipe.
“They chased him all the way to the house and said, ‘This is our neighborhood, you don’t belong here,’” said a man who owns the home where the incident took place. He attended Saturday’s rally and only wanted to be identified as Anthony.
Deputies say one of the gang members pointed a gun at the boy’s head and threatened to kill him if he and his family didn’t move out of the neighborhood.
Those two alleged gang members have been arrested.
“The suspects were a long multi-generational Hispanic gang in the city of Compton and they targeted this family specifically in this neighborhood because they are African-American,” said Chief James Lopez of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
The victims are now in witness protection.
Community members at the rally said they’re sick of the violence.
“We don’t want any retaliation in our streets because in order to stop the violence, in order to do that, people have to feel like something is being done,” said Paulette Simpson-Gipson, of the NAACP’s Compton branch.
These incidents in CA cities sound like what happens in CA prisons, where Black and Hispanic gangs fight for supremacy. Maybe the old Black race pimps should move their focus from hating Whitey if Whitey has to protect them.
There’s no money in fighting against the illegal invaders.
Besides, our national “leaders” have already made the decision to surrender to Mexico.
I’d be more inclined to sympathy if these ‘community leaders’ would also rally when their kids beat the hell out of someone of another ethnicity.

...this is laughable. Why not build a “community center”? That’s what they do when crime goes through the roof where I live. Then you’ll have a place for the homeless and bums because that’s what ends up hanging out there.
These same “leaders” support hate crime legislation to begin with which for the most part only pertains to “whitey” as the hater. Best thing to do with Compton is to leave Compton. There is no hope for that hell hole.
Al Sharpton’s America in the way of Marco Rubio’s America. Right now Bronco Obama seems to be siding with Rubio.
Things might have been different if they were “White Hispanics” like here where I live....ask George Zimmerman
LOL, I think we all know this will not happen in a million years.
Thing is, on the FBI Hate Crime reporting form, hispanics can be a victim of a hate crime but there are not listed as a race offender category. (They are an “ethnic category).
I asked the FBI about that and the guy I spoke to said if a hispanic commits a hate crime the hispanic’s crime is assessed as a White race hate crime.
No kidding.
So, when someone starts to spout hate crime stats and tells you how bad White hate crimes are, you can respond by saying those stats, those counts of White-on-whatever, are nonsense.
