On paper, the third-ranked Iowa wrestling team had every bit a chance to win Friday nights dual with Penn State as the top-ranked Nittany Lions.
Both teams had top-ranked wrestlers and both had matches they should have won.
The Hawkeyes took care of the matches they were favored in and did a little more as Tony Ramos earned a big win by fall at 133 and sophomore Mike Evans won the only true swing match of the night during a 22-16 victory over Penn State in front of a loud and crazy sold-out crowd of 15,077 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The win gave the third-ranked Hawkeyes (16-1, 6-0) sole possession of first place in the Big Ten and snapped Penn States (8-1, 5-1) streak of 20 consecutive dual victories.

Yeah, but can you activate the camera on my laptop without me knowing it?
No, just listen to you breathing.
That’s not me. That was my dog.
I love how the Iowa crowd screams for back points or when they don’t like an escape or a non-escape. They are all in unison and they are all on the same page. Reffing those meets can’t be easy, and it has to be harder in Carver/Hawkeye.
PSU crowds are the same way, but Rec Hall only holds 6500 people. PSU women’s volleyball fans are like that too. Knowledgeable to the point that sometimes you wonder if they are more on top of things than the actual officials.
The Nationals, other wise known as the Big Ten tournament with friends invited, is in Iowa’s back yard, Wells Fargo Arena - Des Moines. As you know the chanpioship will be decided by the team that has the most wrestlers who out perform their seeds.
The 157 and 174 results once again demonstrate that it’s not over until it’s over, i.e., Rob Rohn 2002 win in the finals at 184.
Don’t say that out loud around an Oklahoma Cowboy.
Thanks for the ping. Sort of an Iowa State - Iowa show down.
Good to know you’re surving the winter.
Also guessing that you’ll be busy between wrestling seasons now that Senator Harkin has made his announcement. Please keep me posted on developments in that area.
Looks like Cael got through to a few guys. PSU shut out #8 Illinois 37-0 today.
As to the B1G’s and ncaa’s, I think PSU is set up as a better tournament team than the rest. We’ll see though.
