was so unprecedented

Take a deep breath...

1934. 1938. 1944. 1960.

Those smacked NY pretty hard, too.

What was different this time is that people were unprepared, and there were a hell of a lot more of them.

I don't think anyone here wants to discount the damage done or the pain endured. But there is plenty of precendent for large storms hitting New York. There are web pages listing major storms going back to the 1800s.

Stay prepared yourself, I'm glad you made it through it, and encourage others to be prepared, because it DOES happen to NY. A lot, actually, if you take a close look.

True but it was more than just a bad storm hitting NY that made it unprecedented.

It was the conditions which allowed the storm to develop and track the way it did that were unprecedented.

And it was a BIG storm, winds and water aside. It covered a HUGE land area.

I have to disagree with you there Johnny there are plenty of FReepers who vehemently discount those things about Sandy and continue to, to this day. There was also a smaller, but very vocal group who wished Sandy had done more! I know I've talked and debated them until I was blue in the face!

One FReeper called me out saying my claim of such behaivor wasn't true and between myself metmom and others we sent him links to enough post that he agree our claim was vaided and apologized to us. Darkhearts aren't reserved for the leftist. Many that want to destroy the 'monsters' of the world end up becoming one themselves.
