I spent about twenty years away from Dallas cheering for other teams such as the colts steelers bengals and chiefs. After returning to Dallas the difference is striking. The replacement refs proved we are watching the equivalent of pro wrestling.

If the cowboys are as awful as everyone says then they should lose like crazy. Every season it’s soooo close. Overtime games and 8-8.

We are watching Charlie Brown trying to kick the playoff football. The bengals were far more undisciplined.

All the explanations here explain Dallas penalties and little else. Under penalties by opposing teams cannot be explained. Redskins and steelers were highly penalized teams that mysteriously became disciplined playing the cowboys.

After all the sanctimonious commentary regarding replacement refs I was curious to see how this year went after a 2-0 start. The complete lack of interest in these wild statistical disparities tells me we are watching pro wrestling.

I think the NFL has improved viewership by reducing disparities but its annoying when you are watching 2 billion dollars worth of talent lose to clowns marched down the field by refs.

I still think aikman was basically concussioned out of the nfl by ‘holding’ calls that ended the Dallas nfl dynasty. He got hit a lot harder than rg3 got hit last night to clinch the NFC east. The nfl owed him his commentary job.

The difference is the PLAYERS. They EARN those penalties. Again, where they get penalized the most are not any kind of judgement calls, it’s the procedural problems. For 5 years running they took more false start penalties than any other team in the league, that’s not on the refs.

Plenty of teams started the season well and then went in the crapper. I don’t see Cardinals fans (also started 2-0) blaming their 5-11 finish on the refs. Eagles went 2-0, they’re not blaming the refs for finishing 4-12.

Concussions shortening the careers of players like Aikman and Young are a big part of why the league has cracked down on hits to the head.

If you were really paying attention to Dallas and other teams you’d notice it’s the players. Dallas teams just plain don’t do the little things well. It’s not just the penalties, there’s tons of places where they just don’t put in that extra effort to do the details right. They’re bad in 2 minute drills, receivers don’t toe tap well on sideline catches, not to mention the constant off the field problems. The Cowboys are an undisciplined team. Undisciplined teams draw a lot of penalties and lose a lot of games.
