Opinion on Gun Laws and the Fiscal Cliff (opinion)
Babylon's Covert War ^ | 30 DEC 2012 | JH White

The United States Military, specifically the US Army, does an excellent job at training every soldier to look for and identify what they call “indicators” to highlight possible enemy action. Recently, this same methodology can be applied to what appears to be unrelated and unassociated events that have occurred, but are definitely connected for “means to an end” conclusion. The mass shooting that occurred 14 DEC 2012 was one of many that have been listed here on this site1. As most have noted on blogs and commentary, the anti-gun establishment with the backing of the news media jumped right to the point of using this event to push their agenda of seizing weapons, be it assault, multiple round types, and any other soon-to-be-determined handgun or long gun, on a list that must be turned in, surrendered to federal, state, or local law enforcement officials all revolving around the idea that the average US Citizen is incapable and far from responsible to own weapons that should only be reserved for military forces. The first politician to throw herself into the media’ camera light was California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, who championed a similar assault weapons ban during the Clinton presidency in the mid-nineties2. With the Drudge Report linking a photo stating the US Senate was coming for handguns where the final destination was Feinstein’s website with the proposed solution to ending gun violence in the US, one has to question why the sudden move towards an assault weapons ban considering the number of public schools in the US and the high number of weapon ownership has only resulted in a minor number of shootings. This is not to say at the least that school shootings should be disregarded and those children and school officials killed by this lunatic are nothing at all, to the contrary, it is a major incident and those lost is a national tragedy. There are points to be made and “indicators” that Washington DC politicians and other “same agenda” local politicians that need to be linked and identified.

The important fact must be noted, that is, I fully put my faith and commitment in the US Citizen rather than depending on the politicians of Wash DC, who have over the last several decades gone astray from the traditions of what made the US great in the first place. The 1st Amendment of the US Constitution, Bill of Rights, is there because it is protected by the 2nd Amendment. I totally agreed that US Citizens need to have weapons similar to that of their counterparts in law enforcement and the military. Being a former law enforcement officer and commissioned captain within the US Army, MP Corps I understand and commit to this opinion and understand that perhaps this might endanger my well being sometime in the future. I strongly doubt it. I rely on responsible US Citizens to do what they know is right. Civilian versions of military weapons, like the M4 or AR15 type semi-automatic rifle used by the lunatic at Sandy Hook are just that, similar, but do not have the capacity to go “full” or “3 round burst” fir the average buyer. There is a time now, more so since the founding of the US, that the US citizen needs to be armed, needs to continue to be responsible, and they need to engage in protecting their community and aid the security and law enforcement officials where necessary to become active in this daily endeavor. Fox News telecasted a US Marine that had recently been separated who stood in front of his kids elementary school, unarmed, but aware and looking for indicators to provide comfort and safety as a first line of defense and stated he will continue in civilian clothes until a proper solution is emplaced. This is exactly what is needed in throughout the nation. What is not needed is some self-serving politician like Feinstein telling the rest of the nation that all US Citizens are not responsible; do not need weapons similar to military versions, and to leave it to the government to provide the protection and answers. These same people are driving the economy into the ground, over-spending, will begin to over-tax, and initiate the process of taking away freedoms and trashing the US Constitution, the very document that US military officers pledge an oath to defend and protect, from foreign or domestic enemies. Feinstein and her ilk want an “unarmed” citizenry in order to deflect and control what is about to occur.

Just the other day I asked a personal friend of mine to comment on this fiscal cliff that the US is about to fall off. His response was, “Not to worry...the Federal Reserve is going to print enough money ($1 trillion) to pay the bills in 2013. The problem comes later when either the dollar becomes worth less (hopefully not worthless) or when the bond market revolts and interest rates spike. There's no fiscal free lunch, but both parties are carrying on as if this is all sustainable. The cuts and tax increases they are proposing are too small to matter. Things should stay together in near term as other currencies are a mess too...but eventually there's going to be a real crisis...fiscal cliff isn't the big one.” Again, we must look for and identify the indicators on the economic side of the entire globe. Apparently, from where he sits in the financial world, other currencies will fail and soon shall those of the US type. Other blogs and writers have stated that the US, once it hits this “Big One,” will have the average citizen looking to blame those responsible. Those responsible, (Wash DC) know this and are using events like Sandy Hook to prepare for the eventual outcome of destroying the Republic, which they so hate and despise. In the end, it will be the responsible US Citizen that has prepared for the worst, armed with military style weapons, and have been trained to monitor the upcoming situation, and respond rationally be taking an active role in their community and not succumbing to federal pressure to bow down and submit to a tyrant and those that think the average citizen must be controlled and filtered down to a lowly worker of the state.

We do not need more gun laws or bans. What is needed is for parents to become more involved in their kids’ lives, take an active approach at changing the gun laws in their respective states that will allow armed parents, teachers, and other legal owners to guard what is, in the end, a national treasure, the children. Emotions run wild on these types of matters, but emotions are short lived. What is needed is a factual and dedicated solution that has identified the indicators and a proper response is emplaced and freedoms not taken away. Please use this in total and send a copy to your representative and tell them that we, the Citizens of the US, will do our part in protecting our community and that Wash DC needs to demonstrate fiscal responsibility and stop treading on the freedoms guaranteed to all of us by the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights!

Great writing! Thanks!

I just wish some smart fellow like you would carry it to the next level. Conservatism needs to adopt a comprehensive plan of action short of violence. My idea is each state’s citizenry binds itself together and demands it’s legislators hire in each state an army of lawyers to defend each state from the federal government on tenth ammendment grounds and/or perhaps others. Sooner, rather than later, if implemented by a majority of states, this would for sure, force the feds to heel since the feds are dependent upon the states citizenry to provide them with the largesse from which they perpetrate all this mischief and live their lavish life styles on our dime. My final thought is that most of us Conservatives these days hold the Republican Party in as much distrust and contempt as the Democrats.

Feinstein and her ilk want an “unarmed” citizenry in order to deflect and control what is about to occur.

"Her ilk" are terrified of an armed citizenry. I do not think that Feinstein wants an economic collapse, at least, per se! She is just another opportunist politician, albeit a useful idiot for the bahstids who do want an economic collapse. No, she wants to dictate to everyone and hear herself talk while lining her pockets with the Treasury money.

Di-Fi and her ilk are wholly dependent on the ability to write checks to the dependency class. If the Fed-Gov cannot write checks (or keeps the amount of checks the same during hyper-inflation), she and her ilk are virtually useless to the dependency class.

Petrified arrogance. That is a better description of Feinstein and "her ilk". These fools think that they can control the financial collapse and then control the aftermath. Really?

America is not a 3rd world hell hole. We have our share of idiots and suckers, indeed. But nothing will wisen a fool like an existential threat. When the "American Idol" segment actually has to talk about having enough food, their will be panic, confusion and yes, anger.

Oh, anger. THIS is what Di-Fi and her ilk are afraid of. They fear retribution by the American Idol segment. The segment that they largely manipulated and controlled will turn on "her ilk". And, gulp, some of these will be armed.

The opinions expressed herein regarding the importance of the armed citizen to the continued existence of our Bill of Rights are heartening...

On a cautionary note, remember these opinions are the thoughts of one man, and while encouraging, also remember the vast majority of our law enforcement and military may not agree, and may be quite willing and even enthusiastic about carrying out the orders of would-be dictator Obama...

Personally, I’d like to believe the author’s opinions are shared by the majority, but there is little evidence for this, so please use caution in being overly optimistic that the coming attempts at ban and seizure will not happen...

There are sufficient willing agents in place to at least attempt it, and even have some success, at least until opposition rises against it...

I would like to add:

If the elected leadership of this nation really cared about the Citizen, then they would be working for towards stopping abortion, which estimates that over 1 million babies are killed yearly just in the US alone. The leadership would be working on stopping illegal foreigners from entering the US to commit crimes, evade taxes, and culminate operations that lead to what occurred on 11 SEP 2001. The elected leadership does not care about the freedoms of the average US Citizen, but what can be used to achieve their end desires. This recent proposal from Feinstein is an attempt to wane down the “Day of Reckoning” that will happen once the “Big One” hits the US economic sectors and releases a tidal wave of destruction into the societal and political realms. Having an unarmed populace makes life easier for the elected leadership, but not for those of us working for our families future and livelihood. To counter a tyrant, the citizen must be armed or closely armed, like the military that protects such treasonous leaders.

Also;

Teachers that are currently armed, as in a particular school in Texas, do not have loners, groups, or other deranged nutcases showing up at their school. Schools that have armed police and security have the same results. We do not need to disarm – but arm ourselves with the correct information and weapon coupled with the responsibility and training to safeguard our own communities, churches, and schools.

agreed...but recent conversations with ranking military and some LE entities have shown that the unwillingness to support such “illegal” orders will occur...

No one wants to be the one showing up on a person’s doorstep and be the first to usher in a new civil war - because, you and I know, the news will feed that fire and heighten the panic even more so...and that’s the tragic result of some politician’s dream of controlling her masses...

This was sent to me via a brother in arms serving OCONUS:

“The Gun Is Civilization” by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force.
If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either
convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of
force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two
categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through
persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction and
the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as
paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason
and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or
employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal
footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with
a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload
of drunken guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in
physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a
defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force
equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all
guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a
[armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s
potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative
fiat—it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the
young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a
civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful
living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that
otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in
several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the
physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal
force, watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with
a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works
solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both
are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian
as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as
a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but
because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot
be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because
it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who
would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would
do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that’s why
carrying a gun is a civilized act.

By Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret.)

So, the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed
and can only be persuaded, never forced.
