Assistance needed

Posted on 12/29/2012 6:15:33 PM PST by Michigan Bowhunter

I am putting a political Resume together and have been asked to assemble a collage of agenda items as Chairmen of a GOP County organization. The County has been raising about 60K per year for the past five years and we have had little inclusiveness with outside tea party groups and other conservative groups. My goal is to grow our money supply and broaden the activist base as well as including more regional and nationally recognized speakers and raising awareness at the grass roots level. Obviously I could write anything but I am interested in what people here in this forum who are involved with Tea Party Groups and other Republican county organizations across this nation have found to be exceptional at raising peoples interest to attend monthly meetings and have spurred a desire for people to donate to the party.

Any special events, speakers, unique mentor platforms you have to offer up would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your ideas!

Why don’t you truthfully float your “new agenda items” first?

Or would that continue to turn off your local conservartives and TEA Party members?

It’s not likely your “target groups” are ignorant of what your organization actually does...

Where in Michigan are you? I am the current 1st Vice Chair of our County GOP and the President of our Republican Women’s Group here in Arizona. (I also won election to be a County Supervisor).

It’s become more and more difficult as we lose national elections, to attract more people. And I live in Arizona! Let me think about this and I will contact you. Please let me know where you are in Michigan, as I know some Party leaders there as well. - CHEERS!

Fairfax County VA Republican Party - The trouble I have with this whole thing is it mostly lip service especially at the party level. We tried to get a Veterans committee/group/hoard going to provide first hand veterans input to candidates and representatives in addition to highlighting veterans support. The county party required party membership to participate which turned most “independents” off so nothing ever came of it. We need to get some real out of the box thinking and problem solving or we really are going to have problems.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents..

County supervisor!? ~ congratulations.

The reason folks are running out of warm bodies for all of this are not particularly partisan ~ it's demographics. The baby boomers have already reached the age where they have enormous mortality rates, so you have to draw the new people from cohorts with many fewer members.

That means you gotta' bow and scrape to 20somethings and 30somethings. Tough for a lot of old timers ~ particularly those who have little sympathy for any group with a chronic unemployment problem (half of recent college graduates are unemployed nationwide).

One of the things we’re going to try to do here is have a mentor program. We are an older demographic, for sure, and we’ve been finding that the younger people are enthusiastic, but they are intimidated by the mere mention of the word “Politics.” So this year we are going to pair young people up with some of our more “seasoned” members. Hope it works!

Thanks for the congratulations. I ran against a Republican incumbent. He wasn’t acting like a Republican. Raised taxes three years in a row. And I beat him. Handily. I get sworn in on Tuesday and we have our first meeting right after that. I intend on keeping my piece of the world free with less government. I’ll let you know how it works out!

Banquets with door prizes work well, especially if the door prize is a nice rifle.

The Dems have pretty much announced that they are against the constitution. Young people need to understand it and protect it or they won’t be free in the future. Immigrants did not come here to be poor peasants. They came for the wealth and personal freedom that the constitution makes possible.

Our Tea Party in Texas is not happy with the excesses of the Federal government turning the “war on terror” against Americans and violating our constitutional rights and privacy to the extreme extent Obama has done.

They are real unhappy about agenda 21.

They heard loud and clear idiots in DC speaking out for shariah speech controls in the US.

They want religious freedom. (no micro-managing health insurance mandates.)

Soldiers and vets need political advocacy and respect. DHS is treating them like terrorists and mentally ill due to the normal process of the need to re-integrate into society. They should have employment preferences/employer incentives to hire them.

Public schools are a dead end. They need to be replaced with something innovative.

State universities are focused too much on dead end social studies majors and leaving graduates unprepared for jobs and the US workforce is being weakened.

If I were you I would gather as many TEA Party activists contact info. Get their phone numbers especially the leaders or like me the big mouth of our groups, call them and sit down and have a coffee with them on a one on one basis. When we had a new Chairman step up 7 or 8 years ago, I was one of his first phone calls. We had a great working relationship and got many good solid people elected. When he stepped down his replacement is as much of an ass as the guy that ran the party before.

Have a good heart felt conversation, be honest as to what your plans are. You would be surprised as to how many will join you if you really are a reform minded guy with no marriage to just “Party principal”...

Just my opinion.

Forget tea.

Freedom. Marriage. Faith.

Work with that.

Thanks! I’ll post a thread with pictures on Wednesday after I am sworn in. I’ve been a member of FR since 1998 and I believe my years of debating, learning and admitting mistakes on this forum helped me in my bid for public office!

I, too, have been here every day since January 21, 1998 (the morning the Drudge intern story went mainstream on ABC), and I have learned so much it’s turned me downright cynical. It can be a seesaw, though, with good news following bad following good on a daily basis. I can hardly imagine a better “school” for politics and, especially, conservatism.

Best of luck.

Wow! Congratulations, Hildy! I remember a few spirited discussions with you over the years. Now you’ve grabbed the reins of this runaway stagecoach by stepping up to become a county commissioner, and I could not be more proud of you. That’s just admirable.
I haven’t been elected to anything other than Judge of Elections, but I have rallyed a vocal group of local residents and politicians to defeat an Agenda 21 proposal in our area. An NGO had made a spirited pitch to turn the the road along the Delaware River into a “Scenic Byway”, and made it seem like something so wonderful, that there soon would be unicorns grazing in beautiful pastures, with butterflies everywhere.
Well! There were several meetings held quickly amongst irate property owners in 2 townships. Flyers printed. Doors knocked on, and residents quickly schooled on Agenda 21’s less than favorable view of property ownership. Local Tea Parties, and the Club for Growth lent valuable assistance.
We filled 2 township meeting halls to overflowing with vocal opponents of the Scenic Byway proposal. The supervisors in the first township, who were about to rubber stamp their approval, voted 5-0 to reject the plan. The supervisors in the second township, which had already approved the plan, voted 5-0 to rescind the plan. Amazing what angry voters can achieve when they get informed and involved! The Scenic Byway is now defeated in this area (for now).
I’m sure, based on our prior debates, that you’ll be no less spirited in your quest to get us back on track. I look forward to your progress reports, and am rooting strongly for your success. God Bless You!
PS: I would advise the thread author to make Agenda 21 a big part of your platform. Its diabolical attack on property rights is something EVERYONE can get angry about. Check out: www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com. Rosa Koire is a loony lefty, but totally informed about Agenda 21, so she’s pretty cool in my book. Agenda 21 is something that all people can hate, and not feel bad about it. Good Luck!

Thank you so much. I am very much aware of Agenda 21, and have spoken with Rosa. I hope to have her and some other women who are fighting hard against it here to speak sometime in the Spring.

I will keep you posted!
