I think the local police need to be talking to that Fed EX driver too. Just how did the UPS driver know that particular package contained an IPad?
Think about it. The FedEx driver had access to tracking numbers so he can check the package status on his phone and discover what the package contains. He notifies his buddy who happens to be a UPS driver in the same vacinity. The UPS guy picks up the package (why wouldn’t your average thief take both packages?), they sell the IPad and split the profit.
Since only the UPS guy was fired, the FedEx driver needs only to find another partner.

The box was most likely unmarked, but as a delivery driver I’m sure he learned, directly or indirectly, what was likely to be in that box, especially given that where it came from was likely on the box as well.

I don’t think that he was working in conjunction with the FedEx guy as that would be far too complicated - they’d have to know they were delivering to the same house on the same day, and these are things they don’t really know until the morning. That’s a lot of coordination for very little return.

Now, what I do think is that a) he knew what was in the box from experience and b) he’s stolen a hell of a lot more than just one of them.
