Meredith has largely been ignored or reduced to a footnote by the leftist media. Because his agenda doesn’t fit with the typical leftist race narrative, he is of no use to them. Same goes for fellow Mississippian Charles Evers.

The left hates James Meredith.

He's an opponent of affirmative action. Meredith's termed affirmative action ""nothing more than a political machine for the liberal elite," and said "I've always thought affirmative action was always a direct insult to anyone with any intelligence."

For forty years, he's told black men that their problem was a lack of education, saying in speeches that nine out of ten black males read at a third grade level. Once, when confronted by the media, Meredith said the number came from a study but he thought he was being generous in saying nine out of ten black males read at the third-grade level. He said he believes the actual number is even lower.

He was once quoted as saying that black mothers love their sons, but they educate their daughters, leading to the mothers losing control of their sons after the age of three.

In 1989 he told a Washington Post reporter that 60 percent of black leaders were involved in the drug culture and 80 percent were involved in corruption of one sort or another.

Meredith says that once he became an aide for Senator Jesse Helms, the "liberal elite of the universities" worked to prevent him from speaking on college campuses.

It's no wonder you rarely read about James Meredith. Generally, you hear from him only because the University of Mississippi wants to commemorate something and he declines to go along with it.

For example, Ole Miss wants to erect a state of him to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his admittance. Meredith says he'd like a statue, but only if it were to commemorate something he accomplished in his life. He says that the fact he simply enforced his Constitutional Rights isn't an accomplishment.
