DEVELOPING: Schools in Ridgefield, Conn., are on lockdown following reports of a "suspicious person" possibly armed with a rifle. Ridgefield is approximately 19 miles from Newtown, where 20 children and six adults were killed Friday when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook elementary school. Ridgefield Superintendent Deborah Low released a statement Monday saying that schools in the district "have been put into lockdown." "Due to a report of a possibly suspicious person in the Branchville Train Station area, all schools have been put into lockdown. Branchville Elementary school buses have been diverted to East Ridge Middle School and BES students are in the auditorium," Low said. Lt. J. Paul Vance, Connecticut State Police spokesman, said during a press conference Monday that the individual spotted in Ridgefield is possibly armed. "We’re not sure what the situation is," Vance said. "Ridgefield is handling that situation."

When I was in school all the guys had hunting rifles in their pickups, sometimes in their lockers. NO ONE ever got shot! But I can bet you if some nutjob had gone in their shooting, one of these guys would have taken him out before he harmed anyone. We’re teaching our kids to be cowards.

That political cartoon is so right. This constant 24/7 repeated coverage is going to either inspire another disturbed person to out do the carnage at Sandy Hook or give a jihadist cell an idea. These news stations should realize how their constant coverage is going to be the root cause of another massacre.
