I had the same problem and when I mentioned that my 45 degree wisdom teeth scraped my cheeks inside of my mouth, my military dentist at that moment, promptly removed them with no warning.

He said, "Let me take a look, crack ... snap."

What did you do?! "I pulled it; let me get the other one, crack - pop." I went back to duty with no rigmarole.

I kept the two uppers and the only thing I have noted through the many years is that they hang halfway over the lower molars. No dentist has ever wanted to pull them.

My 25 year old son, who is in the Air Force Reserves, just got all four taken out at once by the military dentist. He had a bit of infection but otherwise was fine. I think you can say the same thing about tonsils. I had mine out last year at the age of 51. Dreadful recovery (3 weeks out of work)and I still don’t have my full sense of taste back, yet not getting colds and the flu, sinusitis, etc like I used to.
