In computers good enough and cheaper always wins. Apple made this same mistake a generation ago with PC’s and Microsoft.

Now they have made the same mistake with Phones and perhaps tablets with Google.

Microsoft also made a huge mistake in letting other vendors standards get established in these devices. Buyers don’t feel compelled to buy their products anymore and that is a big deal for them.

Interesting times.

Apple is perhaps the most successful firm of our generation. The company has amassed several fortunes. Billions, in fact.

Had my own company made as many “mistakes” as Apple, I’d be far wealthier than I am.

LOL!

"Now they have made the same mistake with Phones and perhaps tablets with Google."

It is simply a different path to profits. And man, are they profitable.

From a June 2012 article...

" Apple impressively generated 71 percent of the industry's operating profit with only 6.5 percent of the global handset market, according to Canaccord. "

I suppose they could go after the remaining 29% by doing 15 times as much work, but you would have to ask why.

Others can divide the crumbs. It would seem Apple is quite pleased with their approach. They keep doing it.

And I wonder if this profit includes Apps, Books, Videos, TV Shows and Music? Their ecosystem seems a great model.
