Last I heard, 6 meters is ok for no-code techs. 10 meters is off-limits because of ITU agreements.

Your milage may vary. Check your FCC bandplan before keying.

I took a ham radio license just to fly RC planes but new RC’s now use open ISM band no license required. Still I'm looking to buy new dual bands (2m, 23cm, 6m) handy talkies with packet capability in case of catastrophic emergencies.

The amateur band plan for 2007 and 2012 both show No Code Techs may use the SSB phone freqs of 28.300 to 28.500 up to 200W if I’m reading the chart right. They may also use 28.000 to 28.300 for RTTY and data.
