Interesting note about radio licensing. I went to the FCC website to read about the GMRS license and there is a licensee search by name, city/state, etc.

These radios would be very useful in a natural disaster situation, but in a SHTF government collapse, "they" would have a list of potential holdouts (possible preppers).

Points to ponder.

“”they” would have a list of potential holdouts (possible preppers). “

If that scares you from taking any action that benefits you then you had better sit down before reading any further.

“They” have “fusion centers”, data centers, that will target you as the type that could have radios, food, preps, firearms, LONG before you actually buy them. Your geographic location, your income, your phone calling habits, your credit card purchases, your age, your associations such including family, your home State, the foods you buy at the grocery store, the type of clothing and stores you buy them from, the car your drive, its age, type, make and model, your vehicle maintenance habits, your financial investments, account balances, your Internet usage and posting comments, etc., etc., etc., all contribute far more to whom they might target far more than simply owning a radio. Millions of GMRS radios have been sold, but that isn’t nearly the information used to determine your personality profile compared to the list I just gave you, plus about 1,000 other data points...your dog’s name and type, if you own cats, property value, property location, friends, yes, your friends and associations, miles driven to work, political registration, voting participation rate, magazine subscriptions, organizational memberships such as the NRA, gun ranges, FCC, FAA, Boy Scouts, SFA, AARP, etc., jewelry purchases, educational and training background, occupation, church membership, known skills derived by purchase history and memberships and subscriptions, etc.

“They” know more about you and what you are going to do tomorrow before you know it.

So, my advice, stand proud and be counted, scream “HELL, YES! I HAVE GUNS AND RADIOS AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS! I HOPE THAT SCARES THE HELL OUT OF YOU IDIOTS!!! BRING IT ON!!!”

Exactly. Any time you have to fill out paperwork, they've got you. Any time you use your credit card, they know what you're buying. Anytime you log onto your computer, they know what you're up to. I used to laugh at people who were afraid of Big Brother but not anymore. That said, having a couple longer range radios is good to learn about events further away but I'd rather use the little cheap 5-10 mile radios (and rechargable batteries) for family use as those won't be overheard so much.
