i can’t think of any bond movie that had more impacr than GOLDFINGER when it was released. i still remember the excitement. i built a model of the DB-5 with ejection seat. probably every spy movie and tv show sprang from the rwaction to GOLDFINGER. . the only movie recently with almost that much anticipation was MASTER AND COMMANDER but i am a modrl builder too.

It’s a Bond movie for crying out loud.

You go to sit in a theater for a little while, see an occassional exotic location, a hot broad, a wierd bad guy, an action packed chase scene or two, a couple of big explosions and a guy that acts kinda cool and has a license to kill.

That’s it. If you are looking for anything more, anything deeper, then why are you bothering to see a Bond movie at all?

Skyfall was a good movie. Not great, but good. It was everything I expected in a Bond film and I wasn’t disappointed. The shaking camera crap from the last ones was, thankfully, gone so for that reason alone it was the best Bond film in years.

All the chase scenes, explosions and exotic location requirements were met. It was a formulaic Bond film. That’s all I wanted. That’s all I got. I liked it.

It's entertainment for cryin' out loud. I have the full series of original Bond movies on DVD and I can tell you, that once the sheer novelty wore off, most of them are pretty corny with one-liners and other comedic interludes. The new series is a bit more on the serious side, but still just entertainment with no deep-meaning that requires philosophical studies done to try to decide on the value. I like entertainment of the action/adventure/zombie/science-fiction sort and even enjoyed Skyfall. If someone wants to try to pretend there needs to be some really "sophisticated" components to a Bond movie, they should petition to have the folks who supply Cannes with such tripe to make a Bond film...
