I saw Skyfall this weekend and thought it was one of the best Bond films I ever saw

I dont see why it is getting panned so bad. I may actually go see it again

It’s ‘The Mood’ man, the mood. This was dark - and the ending was - physically. Bond is not dark - he is daylight!

Panned? It’s at 91% on RottenTomatoes.com. I’m a huge Bond fan. I’d say it was better than Quantum of Solace by far, but not as satisfying a total package as Casino Royale. Visually, Skyfall is easily the most impressive Bond film, but I found the pacing slow and the story thin. I get they were trying to emphasize more characterization, but the plot could have used more twists and turns.

I agree...one of the best.

Yes, there was a noticeable lack of gee-whiz gadgets. There were some implausible scenarios, and the villain was still cartoonish.

Still, the action sequences were very well done, and there was more than enough unexpected turns to keep the story interesting, if not riveting.

This might be the reason:

Just as surprising, I have seen a bushy blonde wig on a greasy gay foreigner, who happens to be well equipped to conduct cyberterrorism from a ruined island. It is he who is the villain (though upon his introduction he resembles a hairdresser), flaunting homoerotic impulses in one of the kitschiest performances in the last 182 years. These scenes, these smattering of images, collide and whirl with my sense impressions to constitute the latest Bond film, Brokeback Skyfall.
Some people, prominent in the entertainment industry, may be distressed at a flamboyant gay man being cast as villain.
