Yeah, I had one search request work, then the next one told me I didn’t have permission.
Google has a fairly up to date cache of Freerepublic articles, usually it’s up to date within minutes.
Go to Google, type your query then add “site:www.freerepublic.com” , that’s how I’ve been doing it for awhile.
YES!
hasn’t worked for me for a week.
Yep, same here.
If search is busted, fine. With all the server problems FR has been having, search being busted is not surprising.
But how hard would it be for Jim or John to put a line of text at the top of the forum saying, “Search is down, sorry.” and maybe a link to a page that explains how to use Google to search FR?
I am unable to use the search field, usually get a message that I am not permitted to do so.
On occasion when it does work, I nearly always get no returns for the search.
So out of say 100 searches, I may be able to have it work once.
I think the search function was disabled for FR to load faster during the election.
Search engines search all text not just search for Keywords.
You can limit google search to a specific date range.
I've watched google have FR posts within minutes.
As much as I despise google from time to time they do a good job from time to time on somethings.
Here’s a work around to avoid duplication of recent articles that were posted.
Under your default “settings” page and your “preferences,” and then under
“Browsing
Choose the number of threads or comments to return,”
now choose to increase this to “100” or higher.
Use your browser word search function to search the FR webpage “forum” or main “index” page.
This way, you’ll be able to search 100 or more recent articles posted.
Its been disabled to increase speed.
