My Mother’s family came from Colonsay and Oronsay in the Inner Hebrides.

I noticed in their last issue of their newsletter, that Colonsay Gaelic is dying out and they want to conserve it.

I suppose it is just a local dialect.

Back in the mid-1980's, a musician who had just returned from the Hebrides said that although the islands have a rich musical heritage, the young people there were forsaking it for the music of Michael Jackson, and it broke his heart. Here's hoping that the generation that has grown up since those days is rediscovering it.

..............My Mother’s family came from Colonsay and Oronsay in the Inner Hebrides...............

I believe that my surname, Spence, came from the other northern islands of Scotland, the Shetlands..

Had never considered retiring there - I must check that out!!

Thanks
