Although, with the accutrigger and accustock, some of the sub $1K Savages are capable of producing decent accuracy at practical distances.

I have a .223 Predator Max with a Nikon M-223 3-12x on it that is (with my current eyes) pretty good.

The nice thing about the Savage rifle design (with the barrel nut) is that any mechanically adept person with a set of go/no-go gages and a barrel nut wrench can change his barrel. You don’t need to have the kind of equipment I use to change a barrel (lathe, fixtures, gages, reamers, etc).
