Are you implying that take-out delivery drivers in other areas throughout the U.S. would not have received tips? If so, that is not something that I was aware of at the time. Being just 16, I was just happy to get the extra money.
It was just a summer job. During the school year I spent all that time studying.
The business was a take-out and delivery operation run by a husband and wife. They had no sit-down area and opened for business at 4pm as I recall. On the busier nights they had two of us delivery drivers. We peeled shrimp, cleaned vegetables, and washed pots and pans between deliveries.
The two delivery vehicles were the Chinese couple's own cars.
George and Doris were good to me and I tried to do my best for them. I really hated to leave them at the end of summer. It was a great learning experience.
Anyone who is loud and proud of not tipping waiters and delivery boys and goes out of his way to get a kid fired has no soul and probably has other problems.
In a word, he is an A$$.
A Pizza from Costco is only $10.00... and it is pretty darn good...
Why would anyone want to pay $25.00 to $30.00 for a comparable pizza plus a tip?
Are you assuming that the kid did nothing whatever to deserve his treatment. Do you think a rude waitress deserves a tip?
I had a waitress accidently spill an entire milkshake into my lap. Did she deserve a tip? Perhaps it was not her fault and perhaps she didn't deserve to be fired, but I certainly didn't feel well served.
Perhaps the pizza customer said, "wait just a minute", so she could get proper change. Perhaps the delivery kid said, "well hurry up. I have other deliveries to make."
There could have been many reasons not to tip somebody who behaves in an immature manner. Certainly leaving a rude note was immature.
Further, you seem to be assuming that the delivery kid had no background of other misbehavior. Most employers are not anxious to have to go through the hiring process. If all your employees are competent, you should be thankful. Hiring somebody new is fraught with risks.
If the employer was justified in firing the delivery kid, why are you blaming the customer for bringing such important information to light? Is it your opinion that NOBODY ever deserves to be fired?
Willaim Tell said . . .
And nobody cared.
Could you elaborate on that? I'm not sure what you are getting at.
If you disagree with me and believe that a waitress who spills food in a customer's lap deserves a tip, you should just say so.
If you disagree with me and believe that the pizza delivery person couldn't possibly deserve firing, you should just say so.
If you disagree with me and believe that customers should not report rude behavior of employees to their employers, you should just say so.
By attempting to demean me, you simply belittle yourself.
