We’re in this mess because Americans want liberalism. They want their bennies, bailouts, big bird, birth control and ‘bortions. That’s what is close and real to them. We talk about the future, the impact of the debt and hostilities in countries that most Americans can’t find on a map. It’s too abstract for most people.
