If you actually do tip, then good for you. It’s the right thing to do.
If the service is worth a tip I’ll tip but I haven’t been to a restaurant in years.

Tipping is a gracious thing to do.
It is not meritorious.
The wage is meritorious.
A server can work in return for his wages.
His public position might give him more access to gratuity, but they should not be confused with his wages.
I don’t mind giving a gratuity to the chef or the saucier, and leaving the server without if he expects the tip as a wage.
