Think what could be achieved if wealthy NYers each adopted a family in need and bought them some clothes and shoes, and some containers to store them in.

Interesting suggestion. Some in the Orthodox/Hasidic/Frum Jewish community have also suggested that very thing. Read this: The Yeshiva World Mailbag: Far Rockaway Situation Something Out Of Movie…Except It’s Real

One sample of a comment posted there...

"JUST A THOUGHT; What about families adoptig families- albeit temporarily. A chance to catch ur breath, put things down, warm meal, fresh bed, and safe haven for the kids! A chance For the parents to focus on restarting! We just need a person or group to match" up.

Of course there are points that were argued even regarding a temporary solution, but at least it is a start.

Sometimes all people need is a little relief from the immediate problems to deal with larger, encompassing problems. How can a parent deal with tomorrow, when today is overwhelming?

Volunteers can’t do anything about the long term problems, but they can do something about immediate, every day needs. New York is a very, very wealthy Democrat area. People who live in multi-million dollar apartments and homes, should be able to spare some time and money for others, who are not so fortunate.
