OK, it's Monday night around 5:30PM Central Time. I'm taking a brief break from a long weekend of campaigning. I'm going out for some additional lit dropping tonight.
I just came back from a campaign rally in Burnsville, a second ring suburb of Minneapolis. RNC Chair Reince Priebus was there. So was Kerry Healey, Romney's Lt Governor as well as Cong John Kline, etc.
The crowd was pumped up and making lots of calls - primarily into the 2nd CD. Is Minnesota in play? I'm not sure that it is. I could be wrong but Priebus being here may be misdirection to throw off the Dems.
I spoke with state House Speaker Kurt Zellers. I asked if the GOP will be able to hold control of the Minnesota House. He answered immediately. He said "I think we'll lose a few seats but we'll pick up a few. I think all in all we'll be OK".
I was up in Rogers, a northwest suburb of Minneapolis, helping a co-worker who's running for city council up there. Rogers is pretty strongly GOP. The Dems were non-existent there.
In short, I've been around the metro area doing volunteer work for a number of campaigns. The Dems are out there but not to the extent I've seen in the past. Are they over-confident across the board? Or are they feeling down? Hard to say...
I know this much. The Dems, especially in the inner cities of Mpls and St Paul usually do Midnight Madness. That's their get out the vote effort. Late at night, they do their lit drops.
If anyone else in Minnesota wants to weigh in, let's hear it. OK, I gotta get back out on the campaign trail. Keep working everyone!
As I understand it, MN has a gay marriage referendum on the ballot.
The turnout for that may just push Humphrey/Mondale country into red territory.

yes we do. And the anti-traditional marriage groups has been throwing everything but the kitchen sink in an effort to defeat it. Even pro-business groups are chiming in, saying that it’ll affect their ability to attract and hire professionals to Minnesota.
This amendment could be very very close. In Minnesota, if you don’t vote on an amendment, it’s counted as a NO vote. That stacks the deck against the amendment passing.
Let’s keep out fingers crossed and hope for the best!

right, and these sad sinners are only 1to 2 % of the overall population, but demand we “feel” for them, give in to their demands, or else we get labeled.
I don’t care what anyone does in the bedroom, or how they arrange their domestic lives, but just shut up about it already. They have no right to demand that we, and our children accept this “lifestyle” as healthy or normal.
Most of all, I wish they would leave the kids alone. Puberty is hard enough without the interference with the garbage they spew to confuse young minds.

I’m in agreement with you. Others states have passed the same amendment and near as I can tell, they haven’t suffered from an exodus of professional talent.
But this is just one tactic in a full-court press the pro-gay marriage crowd has done. You should see the TV ads they’re running. Everyone on these ads are all straight looking white people. You’ll never see a flaming homo type named Jason say (in his best lisp) “All I want is to marry Evan, my boyfriend of six months. He’s so dreamy”.
A former GOP governor has come out against this amendment as has the former Chief Justice of the state Supremen Court, herself a former legislator and life-long Republican.

A heavy rain starting at about 7:00AM and ending at about 7:59PM would be nice - especially when that rain is centered over the core cities of Minneapolis and St Paul.

Whoever developed that amendment process was brilliant. It disallows the ignorant, non-caring, or non-voting citizens to negatively affect liberty through their non-participation. It does not give their consent!

I Live in Rogers. At 6:45am, the Line to vote was 200 deep. There is a traffic jam at the local polling site.
FYI, line was out the door at NE Middle School, a distinctly blue neighborhood. I usually do not vote that early but have never before had to wait in line. Got there at about 7:35, home at 8:15. My guess it’s a good sign FWIW, particularly for the marriage amendment.
My first time voting as a Minnesotan. Dreamt about trying to vote several times last night.
Can you say I am nervous about the process - always voted at our local rural fire dept. - with the old lever booth.
Because of mom’s illness, I voted absentee last Friday at Minneapolis City Hall. The crowd of people getting their absentee ballots, at the risk of sterotyping, looked to be about 100% DFL.
On a side note this morning, I drove in to downtown on 35W from the south. Normally, the overpasses are chockful of DFL volunteers waving signs for their favorite candidates. I didn’t see one person on the overpasses this morning. I found that to be odd.

The process should be pretty effortless for you.
I hope it is not just wishful thinking - but my gut tells me that if there is any year that MN goes republican, it is this one. I’ve lived and breathed politics in this state - including a stint as a mayor in a metro suburb (endorsed Republican by the way) - and now work as one of the very few conservatives in municipal administration. I get front row seats at the polls and even in an enclave of DFL leanings in an otherwise conservative / religious area, the Dems are not excited. They may grudgingly pull the lever for their party to preserve their agricultural welfare programs (crop subsidies) but few are expressing outward excitement. My own mayor is in the DFL leadership for the county and even she is pretty quiet about political stuff these days.
We took the state senate for the first time since it went partisan (1970’s) in 2010 and reclaimed the house as well. Lost the governor’s race by a handful of votes. I don’t know if this state is moving right or the lefty part of the DFL shifted the scale and we all stayed the same... but there is a chance MN goes for Romney tonight. My signed election predictions handed to my staunch Republican council member last night said at the bottom that the biggest single shocker of election night will be MN going for Romney. Again... it might be wishful thinking but win or lose it will be a whole lot closer than anyone would have guessed 2 months ago!
