Now that we have watched the politicians patting each other on the back for their first day response, taking photo ops with the afflicted, and jetting off to their warm homes, it is time to begin the evaluation process.
The biggest question I have on my mind as the government scrambles to bring in supplies is this.
We knew this storm was going to hit the East Coast for five days. How many supplies...food, gas, water, and blankets...did FEMA move into place BEFORE the storm hit?
supporting the Obama campaign ?
No, I think over time we will see that not enough was done BEFORE the storm hit, It was all reactive and not proactive. That will reflect poorly on Obama, and make his photo-ops appear to be the worst kind of political opportunism.
I agree. I think this is a good way to study the effects of the storm.
I just finished a very heated discussion with a former New Yorker who said we had to help these people because they did not know how to prepare for a storm...my answer is not printable!
Despite all the hype (and claims of “reform”), FEMA’s game plan hasn’t changed much since Katrina. They’re supposed to be on the ground within 96 hours of a disaster, and their primary role is that of coordination.
With that in mind, I’d give Obama, his FEMA Administrator (Craig Fugate) and the local leaders a D- for their effort. All the politicos gathered for the obligatory photo op, and they’ve been in hiding ever since. The exception, of course, is Barry Zero, who’s busy on the campaign trail.
Meanwhile, New Yorkers are dumpster-diving for food and defecating in dark apartment buildings because the so-called “leaders” have turned away non-union utility crews from the south, and no one thought to bring in porta-potties. Hell, it wasn’t until yesterday that someone had the good idea to suspend the law that only allows fuel to be brought into NY. NJ and CT on “union” tankers. In the meantime, the military is being tasked to establish emergency gas stations in portions of the Tri-State area.
Remember: much of what we were told by the MSM after Katrina (murders and rape at the Superdome) were outright lies. Additionally, the “tragedy” of New Orleans was directly attributable to decades of Democratic Party corruption and incompetence. The “big one” was just a matter of time, but no one could be bothered to actually strengthen the levees, or actually implement an evacuation plan.
This time around, the impact of Sandy is evident for all to see, thanks to outlets like Drudge and social media. Millions are still in the dark; food is in short supply, and you’ll wait in line for seven hours for gas—assuming you can find a station with fuel and electricity to pump it. This response has been a debacle, but no one (except the residents) will dare say that, since Zero is in the White House and he needs to win re-election. Any pols who side with Barry get an automatic pass as well, beginning with the feckless Chris Christie.
