Good timing. Lots of people in the NE who will go prepper after this terrible disaster. I am getting ready in these last days before Tuesday.

I see commercials (mostly on BlazeTV and FNC) for stove-in-a-can. These would certainly come in handy for folks affected by Sandy. I’m planning on ordering some for my prep supplies.

For new comers:

Look what is happening right before your eyes and take heed.

You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become thier ‘serf’. Me I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up in with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
Its your choice you can prep or you can stand around on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring you a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm banklet and a kiss for your boo-boo and maybe you can even get your picture as you stand there on the national news.
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:
http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf
NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!
For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

I also like to recomend FReeper’s ChocoChipCookie Blog The Survival Mom (Please Blog Police let this one slide!) Where you can get lots of useful information like:

Underestimation can be fatal.”

Today and this weekend is a GREAT time to stock up on cheap halloween candy.

While candy is not really seen as “survival food” thinks like snickers bars and any chocolate candy with peanut butter is a very good energy dense well stored “bug out rations” than can be used to stretch the better survival foods.

I’m thinking of buying some Junk Silver. Having some on hand when the Apocalypse hits would makes sense and it holds it’s value relatively well.

Last weekend, the kids took me shopping with them to the local asian market (son-in-law is first generation American, parents from Cambodia).

I will be buying some bulk stuff there, because of the prices.

Not everyone will like all of the items available, but rice, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, etc.. were cheaper than anywhere I've seen so far, and they tend to come in bulk containers.

Places like Party City also sell sterno fuel fairly cheap if you can get the deals, one cool thing I picked up there the other day was a “solar powered LED flashlight” while solar power flash light may sound at first like an oxymoron, they can be stored on a qwindow sill during the day to provide light later when it gets dark.

While candy is not really seen as “survival food”

Once upon a time, chocolate was included in government survival rations because of it's energy density and 'low residue'.

Yes, the LED/Solar lights are great. I bought a box of them, and a couple of the head band mounted solar LED's, too.

I also have a small solar charger that will at least allow a cell phone/laptop to charge.

Yeah, while you wouldn’t want to use candy as a main source, it can provide much needed calories to complement protein rich foods like jerky.

"To Start things off CVS has Dak canned hams 2 for $5.00"

LOL - every time someone posts this, I run in to check, and either 1) The sale is over, or 2) They're out of stock.

Okay I'll try ONE last time. :)

I bought one of these.

I decided to double my gasoline storage after seeing the folks in NJ and these polyethylene containers will work great. They do not have the EPA vapor vent spouts so they are "not recommended" for gasoline storage but, I'll under-fill it by a gallon to allow some room for expansion and keep it in a cooler spot in my shed. I have a bunch of 5 gallon poly tanks but decided to bump up my store.
