She’s about to be utterly, physically dependent on him as a new mother and with a screaming dinner bell for zombies (wailing newborn) shortly. She has to keep him willing to do anything for her for them to have a chance at survival. Though that doesn’t happen if they follow the comic story arc.

Exactly, which I think fits perfectly with this season's theme, the previous seasons were more or less about the breakdown of society, the breaking of personal relationships, and what is a "friend" a post-apoc world. Now, it's just about survival, and Rick taking down Tomas, Lori doing her best to endear herself back to her husband is all about survival. Wonderfully done.

I'm also liking the scientist character at Woodbury. There isn't a character like him in the comics, so it's great they're trying to deal with the "science" of zombies. This could manifest itself in many directions for the show. Will the governor try to make the creatures his robotic soldiers? I can see that happening.
